Marketing a Football related site

I am launching a new football website in 3 weeks time. The site will be an affiliate, not a merchant.

I want to hire an online marketing professional who loves football to promote the site. On-site optimisation is largely taken care of and we have a viral game ready to go. We need link building with appropriate football sites, PR to get the site in the papers, promotions (e.g. sponsorship of fantasy football leagues), etc. Revenue share with larger football sites is also an option.

Does anyone know a football loving marketeer worth their weight in gold?

your post doesn't specify if you are looking to add more merchants on your site, as well as hiring a marketing person and striking link deals, is this something you are interested in getting information on?

The site mixes football and travel. It won't do anything related to football tickets, shirts, results, fixtures, opinions, etc to keep options open to partner with sites that do offer these items. Relationships with Justsocca and Subside are both possible (Jenny and Simon I will contact you soon).

Hero, we are not looking for any more merchants.

My goal is to find a marketing guru who can:
- SEO and link build
- establish partnerships with appropriate sites
- run PR campaign and get the site launch noticed
- and do all this on a shoestring budget / revenue share

Jim from GET ME IN here. We are a ticketing marketplace that specialises in premier seating and sold out events. Nothing is sold out, not even El Gran Classico!

Obviously, in the close season there's not much in the way of ticketing happening. However, as soon as the major European leagues announce their fixtures (TV revised fixtures) we will have availability.

Why not inject your business/site into Million Pound Lake.

The SEO would be solved instantly. A mention of Million Pound Lake is on page 1 of Google six times (10th July) and www.millionpoundlake.co.uk is currently in top place on page 1 of the MSN and Yahoo search engines.

A good PR company should find it easy to promote Million Pound Lake as a brand name because it is easily remembered.
