I'm feeling a bit silly today, so I thought I'd put up a rather pointless poll.

People tend to use Affiliate Program and / or Affiliate Programme

But which is correct? They are Synonyms of each-other, but which should we adopt from now on for the affiliates4u forum? traditionally mme is the English (UK) version, wheras in the past we adopted the m version from the USA!

    What's the general consensus?

correct is with double mm and an e as the roots of this word comes from the greek one "προγραμμα" which is with double mm.

BUT as the world is progressing the same happens with the language as well and thus both words are of the same meaning and of the same "quality" grammar wise and can "stand correct" (by the way in greek the same is happening with this word as half the people write it with one μ and the other half with two ones and it is correct)

The proper English spelling all the way.

The world has a short enough attention span as it is, we should fight to uphold all that's good and proper in our language. Hoorah!

I get a lot of cr@p for my american spelling here - but to be honest, i suspect a lot of british spelling is just a sneaky attempt to cheat at scrabble

I have always used program when mentioning affiliate marketing or anything computer related however if I was at a fete or a gig I would buy a programme.

Strange I never knew one was the american way and one the british.

Hey Matt - I actually think this is a good point, and something that has bugged me for a while. I started off referring to affiliate "programmes" as I understood "program" to be the computer meaning. I have drifted into using program out of apathy and seeing it commonly within the industry.

Having seen the patriotic outcry and scrabble tip - I'll switch back to "programme"

From a very good grammar site that clears up q's like this...

    "Is it program or programme?

There is always the difficulty of recognising American English spellings and British English spellings with words like these.

Whether we like it or not, much of our language is now heavily influenced by American English spellings.

So, for the noun, ‘program’ is used when talking of the IT world – it is something we run on a computer.
    Example:

    * This computer program is not responding.

When referring to television or training, we would use the noun ‘programme’.
    Examples:

    * This TV programme is really great. We must watch it next week.
    * The programme of events was interesting at the sports day.
    * The training day had several programmes to choose from.

For the verb, ‘program’ is used for all instances.
    Examples:

    * We must program this DVD-player to work properly.
    * He was going to program the robot to do this for us.
    * They programmed the machine several times."

So does it clear it up?

Surely an affiliate program is more like IT than it is Television...
