Hi Guys thanks for your replies on "google position" and "internal site links" they were invaluable...

I have now made 7 sales in a few days and I'm really chuffed.

My site is a perfume one and I'm actually doing ok with a very small ppc campaign.

I want to do some work on free traffic and wondered if you can reccommend the best way to get links quickly and cheaply.

I have read that one way links are better - does it matter if i get links from non relevant websites? I've read about this as much as I can and the info all seems to contradict itself.

EG. is a one way link to my site from a mechanics website better than NO links??!

And how would you reccommend I approach people for relevent links? I tried two e mails yesterday and one replied "please don't spam us"!

Any tips as ever very gratefull..

    Thanks
    Kate

Write articles, submit them to article distribution sites, include your url in the signature:

Inbound links work well when from relevant sites, as the content can nicely match up and be seen to be good SEO practise. Thats not to say that non-relevant inbound links cannot add value too, but typically they aren't worth much...unless you have a link from a well respected source such as BBC etc.

Outbound links can help too, but bare in mind the more outbounds you have, the more likely the visitors is to click away from your site without achieving what you have them there for. Good outbound links to google, wiki, bbc are always worth while though. Just make sure its linking to a relevant page complimented by your content, not just their homepage.

PS - Get yourself registered on here rather than posting as a guest, you'll get more responses that way.

Hi Kate, I am going through the same perfume site building process. If you can present a benefit to the webmaster of the site your trying to link with you may get a better response.

I strongly recommend Brad Callen's advice and software. I am not associated with Brad but have gained so much from his free training and software(software isn't free) that I'm sure you will benefit from it. Brad Callen : Expert Internet Marketer

My site is an adsense site focused on fragrances and perfume what is yours about?
    Good Luck.

I suggest do lots of quality and targeted link building for your site. I posted this in another thread. Hope this helps

There are several ways to build links. Here are just some of the following:

Directory Submissions - targeted links at high PR directories
Blog and Forum Postings - to high PR and frequently crawled sites
    Social Bookmarking
    Classified Ads
Article Marketing - submit to high PR directories, could also serve as link baits
Link Exchange - with relevant and authority sites
Link Baits - for organic linking
    Etc. etc.

If your site is worth linking to - IE. it has plenty of good relevant and original content - then why not try sending an email to 100 relevant sites?

You'll get an odd smart arse remark, many will ignore you, but some will swap links with you as they need links just like you do. Don't be afraid to aproach well ranked sites either!

One thing I'd suggest is to keep a list on a spreadsheet of who you've asked.
