    Hi everyone,

Just wondering what the best way of grabbing a domain name that is due to expire is?

It's all above board in that the current ownder used to trade under this name (7 or so years ago), about 2 years ago we offered them £1k for the domain and they refused saying it wasn't enough, they've since renewed the domain and it currently goes to a page explaining that they've changed their name. The thing is the domain name is an extremely common mispelling of our domain name (1 letter difference) and lots of our customers go to this site and get as confused as a cucumber.

I doubt very much at this stage whether they get much business from the old domain as it's not an industry that is 'brand intensive' - i.e. all their big customers will be well aware of the change and use the new name. The thing is that it's so cheap to keep the domain registered I doubt they'll let it go, but if they do we want to grab it first.

Thanks in advance for any feedback.

If it is a 'valuable' domain then you have no chance as the big players will grab it. If it is not something they would grab then you can use the service of a company such as Name Warden, who basically try to grab it as soon as it becomes available. It's a small fee, but as you were prepared to buy it for £1k I am sure it will not be an issue.

In my experience you might as well forget it. I've paid for domain watcher-type services before and never got the domain.

    Thanks for the mention Aspirin

jonno, you didnt mention if it was .com / .uk etc.. If its a .uk then no problem I can try nab it for you. Otherwise .com .net etc you can try places like pool or snapnames.

    As aquanuke says.
Ive tried bckordering .co.uk domain names with zero success.
For .com and .nets I use snapnames very successfully.
