We have always allowed Merchant and Network staff to post Merchant specific offers and Promotions within the Affiliate Lounge.

Do you think we should continue to allow this, or do you feel we should only encourage real debate and discussion on general Affiliate Marketing topics?

Personally I prefer offers to be in their own area, much easier to find, also think if a merchant / agency posts an offer it should be just once with which networks the program is on listed at the bottom of the post

Agree completely. Multiple postings get frustrating.

Also, where's best for new program announcements go? The lounge or the relevant network's forum? The latter gives less exposure.

    Cheers

I think that promotional posts should all remain in the promotional forum.

Posting in the lounge is helpful is you only want to post once but are on multiple networks.

Multiple threads are a pain for both sides to keep track of.

My Pennies worth, one promotional free for all thread (all networks and inde's)
And keep merchant/network promos in their own sections.
Lounge should be for general aff marketing discussions.

How ever because it's friday, if you could also add in the lounge, beverage and snack machines, perhaps a small bar too and covered smoking area. Some wafty music and a pool table with chalk. Thanks

    I agree with jess1.
The 'time & place' for merchant offers IMHO would be a Promo thread.

Isn't Merchant offer postings in the lounge, akin to the guy coming over to your table at dinner with a bunch of mangy-looking roses and a smarmy grin? (My wifes twist on this is to tell the guy "Nah, I aint buying him any Roses, I can get into his pants anytime I like!" )

I view the forum via 'New Posts' - so wherever it is posted I will see it - but currently I see it twice.. which is pointless

    Folks,

Don't miss Prezzybox.com's Summer Sale with cracking discount off loads of great products...

Only kidding (Mods - feel free to delete as you see fit...).

I think it's best to put 1 promotion in 1 place - probably the promotions forum. It annoys me when you see loads of threads in loads of different places for the same promotion - and I'm not looking for promotions!! Then again, I am getting more grumpy with age, so it might just be that I'm a miserable gyt.

    Good day one and all,

    Zak.

As an affiliate manager of Leisure Direction, I am guilty, must say, for multiple posts in Promotions, Travel Vertical AND Affiliate Window as of very recent. Never crossed my ming an issue that the same (or similar) posts come up multiplied under New Posts as that is not where I go usually: I go into relevant Verticals directly. While I am just trying to cover all angles ( ), I can understand why some might regard it as annoying, especially if they have no interest in my post and what we have to offer...

Let me know what you decide and I'll comply, of course. I personally think, however, that it would be the best if system could allow, if at all possible, any duplicate posts by the same handle to appear only once under New Posts and state verticals where it has been posted. Just a thought...

I think that promotional posts belong in the promtions forum and that only affiliate debates etc in the affiliate lounge.

I've got to say, I've been torn on this one. In terms of multiple-posting....I'm stuck

I work with Affiliate Window and Commission Junction on the 24Studio program for example.... and (aside from making sure the client is happy) I always feel that I owe it to both networks to make sure any special offers (etc) are posted in both of their area's on the forum.

The networks rely on the merchants to make up their revenue in terms of the override ....so if I just post a promotion on one of the networks forum-area's and not the other.... does that mean I'm giving them an unfair advantage over the other network? - I'd hate to be accused of showing favouritism!

    Any thoughts?

I think there are varying degrees in terms of posting on behalf of a merchant. I agree that a change on an existing programme or a specific promotion belongs in the network forum, where one would expect to find it. However with a new programme launch I have always used the lounge as well on the basis that it is in both our interests to get to as wide an audience as possible.

One convention that I adhere to is to make it very plain in the title what I am posting. I find it far more annoying having to open a thread to discover that it is of no interest to me because it had some cryptic title.

Personaly, No. I get far too many communications about promotions as it is via email - I don't want to have to read them again here.

But that's just me being a grump old ....
