But does anyone actually look at the ads on Facebook - I'm sure I read a report from somewhere in the last couple of weeks (can't find it now) which said Facebook had the worst conversion rate of any online ad medium.
Never argue with idiots. They just drag you down to their level and then beat you with their experience.

If ignorance is bliss then some of the people I know must be orgasmic.

This conflict situation make me think that search media and social media are different segments. It is very tricky to convince or make people click on any ad or application while they are not looking for anything. Even though the ads fit their demographics or personal choices or interests, people are ignoring these ads. People are joning these networks for fun or getting socialize. It is in a way, a place for human ego. So this situaiton seems like making the bubble effect.

    It's rubbish.

My profile clearly states that I am in Manchester, and I'm in the Manchester network. Yet still I seem to get ads for London events. Among other things.

As Doug says, there is loads of behavioural targeting washing about the web. If anyone has any high-traffic sites, and wants to get in on behavioural targeting and start to make some money from it (by targeting users that visit your site, and letting other people use that data) then drop me a line.
