Home taping is killing music!!!!!
Ah, now you have highlighted out a point that may have swayed me.
Who is profiting from that 'freedom of information' MMMmmm interesting, I agree with you there and find myself in deep water.. . . . or san miguel at least - I am off to bed![]()
Home taping is killing music!!!!!
Sounds rather dramatic to handcuff him. Whatever happened to more conventional legal proceedings if someone thought he had a case to answer?![]()
I could be wrong, but my understanding of the technicalities of case is:
1. People uploaded copyrighted material to video hosting sites such as youtube. They gave the videos obscure titles that were nothing to do with what they actually were.
2. People then posted the link on tv-links, along with it's real title. The video was then *EMBEDDED* on the tv-links site (note not simply linked to, but embedded).
So as far as copyright holders go, they can't really go after the video hosting sites, after all they can't logistically watch all videos and make sure they are not infringing, they can only rely on people reporting them. And if the name is just some made up rubbish, it's pretty hard for them to do anything.
And so as far as I understand it, tv-links was a piracy site, which just happened to use video hosting sites as essentially a free storage provider.
This broadcast on BBC2 seems to be relevant and a good listen too.

I am still in the middle of it so can't tell you any more![]()
I was always told that under "The computer misuse act" you commit an offence if you link to or promote unathorised material.
I suspect theyll try and do him under computer misuse, and after loads of wasted money the CPS will drop it.
Is it not true that a hell of a lot of You Tubes material contains copy right material? Just type in your favourite bands name and there is bound to be tons of videos.. surely that is copy righted?
And a lot of webmasters "embed" videos of their favourite songs from You Tube.. and therefore, all these sites are breaking the law and liable to end up in prison?!?!
