Wordpress Help
First post so be kind!
I have read quite a bit on the forums about the merits of Wordpress.
My question is can it be hosted in the UK and if so with who and can it be used for more than one site.
The wordpress site only mentions US based hosts.
Thanks in anticipation

Wordpress can be installed on UK servers as well as any other servers as long as you have ability for php and mysql.
You can either download the latest version from wordpress website, or when you buy a hosting package, it is usually one of the default options that they can install for you (or yourself at the click of 1 button).
As for Wordpress in terms of website. Many here will vouch for it as a good tool to get something up and running. It may not offer every functionality you desire, but you can't go wrong with it to start off with.
Well worth dabbling about in it.
Oh, and welcome to the forums

Cheers Frostie,
I have been lurking since July and finally plucked up the courage to lose my posting virginity.
Now that I have made the leap I imagine that by xmas I will have made at least 2 posts.
Thanks Again

Hi, welcome to the forums.
Wordpress can be set up on UK hosting that supports PHP and SQL databases. It seems hard to setup but is in fact very user friendly when coming to implement it. You can get instructions from their website/forums and also from the readme file that is downloaded with the scripts.
Another alternative is to have it hosted by wordpress as a third pary domain, i.e yoursite.wordpress.com, but I have never used that before.
The support and community following of wordpress is great, plenty of free themes to choose from, lots of plugins to give you extra options on many accounts. The admin section is also very user-friendly, probably one of the best I have used. You can also easily optimise your Wordpress blog to make it user-friendly to the search engines.
I would suggest however you tread carefully, it will help to have a basic knowledge of the structure that PHP scripts are written in and how to implement say basic HTML or Javascript and where to put it, but that only comes if you want to alter the scripts slightly (say adding a public tracker, stat counter, etc).
Some plugins also require you to add code to the scripts in order to make the plugin work, but mostly they tell you where and how to do it.
If you choose a good hosting provider then setting up an SQL database should be a doddle. I would say choose a host that comes with CPanel as it will make life easier for you.
I can also say that when you have done it once then you will do it a thousand times. I have set up about 10 blogs in my life for myself, friends and family and now it is second nature to me.
I hope that helps
Terry
{Edit} P.s, PM me if you come to struggle with it and I'll try to help you the best I can, but its worth learning.
