Advice On My Affiliate Website Attempt

I've just started a new affiliate website - GuitarChimp.co.uk - Guitar Straps, Pedals, String, Plectrums & Bananas! - It's intended to be a bit of a shopping directory for Guitar accessories. I'm planning to drive traffic by PPC.

Just wondering if you could give me advice on what to do next, what I should change etc.

Cheers,

Joe

Hi Joe,

I've just taken a quick look at your site, and on first impressions it seems a little low on content... I play the guitar myself so in some ways your target audience and for me it would be nice to see slightly more enticing content on the front page, rather than some guitar strings... I realise these are what you get paid for selling, via affiliate window. But on a guitar website I would expect to atleast see a few pictures of guitars, maybe with some interesting history, famous people who played with different instruments, articles about current bands.

Yep I reckon you need to plan out a few interesting categories and fill the site up with a little content and a pepper it with cool looking pictures of guitars. Make people want to stick around for a while then click on a few links to buy stuff.

Alternatively if you just want to go down the PPC make a quick buck route, you need highly targeted pages for the terms you are bidding on. I.e. if you want guitar strings traffic you need a page dedicated to guitar strings with them all very clearly laid out with big pictures and make it really comprehensive and clear to see what they are after. People have a very little attention span, so your site needs to make a very good first impression and make people think this is the best place on the web to find exactly what they are looking for.

I hope that's some help, cool domain name lol.

Thanks! Great advice there. I think you've put things in perspective...

Yeah, I'm not going down the content route, I'm going strictly PPC. Im keeping content to a minimum so I didn't sort of distract visitors from buying the offers...

...But while the aim of my site is to get them away as fast as possible to buy, I want to build a bit of a brand within the industry, to get them coming back next time they want to buy some strings, pedals etc.

I know I need to put more effort into my posts - which will effectively be landing pages.

Cheers for the advice.

Ok cool, it sounds like you have a plan Maybe you could try and get some of them to leave their email addresses and signup for a newsletter.

Goodluck!

A really petty thing but considering the site is about guitars, why is there a monkey playing the symbols? As i said, petty but struck me as odd!

Re: Advice On My Affiliate Website Attempt

Is this a joke? You're going to eat a bannana and
look at your laptop...

I'll assume it isn't.

Like Ian-d said, the monkey playing symbols
looks odd. Lose it totally, It's irrelevant (at least
50% irrelevant).

General appearance of site: I can imagine it
would look ok when you get more content
and lose Keith Moon.

The Digital window links don't work.

PPC on these products is a TOTAL waste of time
for a first aff. site.

You need a big "message" in visitors faces
conveying why they should use your site...
or even why they should stay on your site....

...You compare prices everywhere, your prices are
always upto date. You list a huge range/offer
great choice.

If you're strictly doing PPC (which I wouldn't) don't
worry too much about content. Just ensure you have
enough to please Mr G's quality score.

Personally, I would stop this right now and apply any
ambition you may have to other avenues.

The time it's taken you to do this you could have spent
researching other avenues. FAR better ones.

If this is a hobby - good luck.

If you want to make money. Stop. Now.

You will make zero money, at least in the
first year.

Think. Your time will be better spent thinking.

Off the top of my head. Do a website about
microwave ovens or womens underwear
you'll make more money.

Good luck.

A better alternative would be something like this:

monkey

Re: Advice On My Affiliate Website Attempt

Thanks for the advice. I've been driving some traffic to the acoustic guitar strings for a while, without many clicks. I'm gonna test some ads, and keep driving the clicks and just see how well the post converts.

I'd imagine it will convert quite badly with just a post and an affiliate window widget with some strings on...

I'm glad I've made the post becuase I need to rethink the landing pages, and the whole sort of aim of the website.

I'll keep you updated...

Joe
