I`ve had the same email.
Really pisses me off when people spam through Private Messages, and for that reason alone I would never sign up with them. Sounds like their desperate...

Yup, got that too, don't take them seriously.
Atleast you've put their email address on, hopefully the spambots will visit and have a field day![]()
Yep had that, and still prefer pork luncheon meat with egg

Actually, tbp - you raise an interesting point, and I hope that you guys could possibly give me some pointers.
For those of you that dont know me, I run the London office of SearhLogic Plc. As a company we work as an agency offering website design, build hosting etc, SEO, PPC and Affiliate Marketing through our own Network (see our forum for more details).
Now this year has seen a few new Networks set up, and one thing that I have noticed is the varied attitudes of affiliates to being contacted - how they are contacted, how oftern, who by etc.
Now this is a difficult one - we have about 70 campaigns, and I would like to be able to tell affiliates about them and get them to sign up. Some affiliates I know, some I dont -some sign up organically and other promise to but never deliver. So what is the best way to contact them?
I know that you will never please 100% of the people all the time, but the only reason that I would be contacting someone is to bring our services to their attention. Maybe niaively I feel that I have a duty not only to the Merchant, but also to the Affiliate to inform them of what we are doing.
So, what is the least offensive/most positive method of contacting potential new affiliates without looking like a scammer/looking desparate etc. How could *I* for example contact you the affiliate without annoying you (not you as in tbp, you as in "you lot" *points at screen*)? Cos I am pretty friendly and would like to say "hello"!
Can anyone help?
ps - Rupiz? You havent given anyone long to become the best affiliate of 2007....

The best way of contacting affiliates, and the one most likely to yield results, is to use an established reputable affiliate network.
Make some real money:
Affiliates : www.affiliate-marketing-school.com
Merchants : www.lead-clearing-house.com
Connect with me on LinkedIn http://www.linkedin.com/in/mrmichaelanthony
I would like to think that we are reputable. Just new
Just to clarify, we are a network and are looking to Recruit affiliates. I was wondering aloud what the best way to do this was without annoying affiliates.
Hi Neil,
I'd say it would depend entirely on the approach you use and how much thought and research can be seen as having gone into it. A targeted, individual email giving relevant information is far more likely to succeed than a generic private message which could have been sent by a bot.
Rather than simply inviting somebody to join the network as has been done above you'd want to outline what specific programs you have that they might be interested in based on what you know about the affiliate's areas of work. A few simple USPs and guide to signing up/getting links live as quickly as possible could also a good idea and also give them the option of replying to you, or you replying to them in future via a medium of their choice whether that is email, phone, MSN, carrier pigeon or whatever.
Dude - that is probably the best reply i have ever had to a post. Which probably says something about the quality of my posts to be honest
And I totally agree - targetted emailing is the obvious way forward, and is what we do with existing and potential affiliates *when we have the email address*. But when we dont - I dunno, but it seems to me that its almost a no brainer to pm someone who is a member of A4U. its frustrating I know, because most of us use nicknames etc and keep the nature of our affiliate activity very close to our chests. I did a post a while ago about Affiliate transparency, and it just killed the thread. Affiliates know all about me and what i do and where and how they can get hold of me - I just wish that that it was the same the other way round - that way I could only target affiliates who were working in the field of the merchant that I am trying to promote!
Anyway, thanks for taking the time to come back to me! right - rant over!
Attracting affiliates - take out an Ad on a4u?
Getting them to sign up - show us which merchants you have on board *before* we have to fill in the forms (it amazes me how many new networks don't do this)
