HI I'd like to share my plan for 2008 -

    - large site on companies - lets just say similar to broadband market, but a bit less competitive... over 20 reviews/comparisions with multiple landing pages.. Then do it again in other niches.

    - Site on a specific type of product/offer - example: holidays, wine, smart phones... reviews/comparisions.

    - uk deals/offers type site - i know these are everywhere, but everyone has one and I feel left out. I think a general uk offer type site will also be great for testing new niches and products without having to bang out new sites all the time. I think they're also a great site to put in affiliate network/merchant applications as your main site, if you don't have one set up for that particluar verticle or you just want to test it.

    - a datafeed store - never really liked the idea, but I'm going to try it out, and add some value somehow... maybe by adding multiple merchants, different content etc.

    - a couple of longterm niche sites - with a blog, a mailing list, and real content. I found a couple of decent niches that I happen to be very passionate about, and I'm looking to create videos, tutorials, reveiw products, write up news etc and become the authority for these very niches. Eventually I could look at making a digital product for this niche, like software or video course and get my own affiliates!

    - a real content/PPC hybrid site - I have a couple of ideas for product based sites, with real content too, with a viral aspect to them. So I'll be looking to generate sticky traffic organically, aswell as creating PPC landing pages and hopefully having some sort of halo effect - getting the PPC traffic come back for more.

    - Wordpress niche offer sites - Find a small niche, and then by hand add offers and products as posts as and when they come. Drive PPC traffic to the posts, and hopefully get some organic traffic. Example: Cool calendars... Weird Paperweights... Freaky Gadgets... Elegant Stationary

    - Single product SEO sites - look for upcoming niche products... niche magazines, TV ads whatever, then buy a domain with the name of the product in, make the whole site about that product, what it does, how good it is etc, and try to get lots of free organic traffic, aswell as testing conversion with PPC.

This is just me brain storming my ideas, and things I'd like to do this year. What do you think, and contribute if you like.

Hey.. have you been looking at my brainstorm? Seriously those are some good ideas and are (hopefully) the foundations for a good affiliate income. The other great thing is that you're not sticking to one format/merchant/network so it's futureproof too. Good luck, let us know how it goes!

Good post. Without being too detailed, here's what I intend to do for 08.

Price comparison site - Mostly cheap PPC, and around 2.5k products from a certain 3-4 major UK retailers. Already set up, and if it works, reproduce. Bad choice of language - duplicate I mean...

Dive into mobile market - Probably my plan for the second quarter. Most likely using a fantastic looking aggregated feed (mobile market feeds are a nightmare) and some clever code to make a really good deal website

Keep promoting those content/niche based sites, bit of linkbait here and there.

Like the OP, go for a social deals website - That'll have to be Q3 then... - Standard jobby but with a much greater emphasis on social!

good luck to you phil... strangely your new site in your sig is very much like my new one!

We'll have to hook up on messenger some time.

wow some nice big ideas there harvey... I'd like to add one more in to the mix >

    >> Digital Products - I know mainly US based, but theres lots of software, ebooks, video courses etc with really high margins... and I'm confident that digital products will be a long term winner especially for PPC as the affiliates will generally have more margins than the merchant unless the merchant has a well converting backend... so its a case of may the best affiliate win for digital products.

Most of the products have free trials too, so you can test it with screen recording software and make some killer preselling landing pages. If they dont have a free trial, you can request one, or just go ahead and buy it.

I'm not talking get rich quick software or ebooks either... i want to stay well clear of that industry.

I wish there was a UK network for digital products? Is there?

    Joe

Interesting thread, as whilst this is a forum to share and help, i'm sure most, especially the pro's would probably not discuss what they are planning on working on, for obvious reasons. Still, sure there will be some valuable information to help those in need of imspiration etc.

I'll tell you what i won't be doing lol :

    Discount Code Site
    Cashback Site
Anything to do with mobile phones and holidays!

Have to agree, while I'm not a pro in any sense of the word, I wouldn't disclose what my plans are on a public forum. It would seem that you can become a victim of plagirism by even mentioning one piece of scum (MVC) nowadays?

Bit shocked at the replies on here tbh

Plagiarism on ideas like the above? Longterm niche sites, SEO sites, price comparison sites and entire markets are hardly stealable ideas.

I can understand the need to be vague as much as the next guy, but it's all too easy to watch a thread, hoping there "will" be valuable information and sit back...

Agreed. No ones expecting anyone to go:

"Right I'm going to build a site in the health niche, promoting merchant X, using software X to build the site, and these keywords on PPC..."

It's just general ideas of where you think affiliate marketing will take you next year.

Build user run sites or die
A survivor personality is a winning personality that longs to win in the long-term, within the big picture and not one that looks only to succeed within individual moments.

I've spent the last year being a bit scattergun with my work. I'm stopping that and putting the focus on SEO and some of my older properties that have been neglected. My biggest gains the last year have been working on exisiting projects rather than starting lots of new ones, so I'm working with what I got now that domains have nicely aged and stuff.

Nice thread, we're kind of "out of it" now and almost exclusively focused on management but if we were still in it heres what we'd do.

    - Cashback/voucher hybrid with a niche focus on fashion
    - Shopwindow sites in niches with PPC landing page focus
    - Direct to merchant PPC in foreign territories

That sums it up for me. A solid user-run site reduces all the risks of PPC competition, Google's algorithms etc. etc. Not immediate though of course, unfortunately needs lots of work and a budget to kick start it on PPC - damn !

    1. Build a sticky site
    2. If that doesn't work, build another one
    3. If that doesn't work, build another one and one day huge tracts of internet land will be yours.

    4. Instead of generating sites based on business models and products eg. cashback, shopwindows etc., look at what sort of advertising space is going to be valuable and to who, in 2-3 years. If you try to build the equivalent of the FT, you might have very valuable ad. space for years to come. Easy to say of course.
