Win A House - Opinions wanted

    Hello

What do you think of Win A House competitions? I was asked for my opinion on this. I have some doubts about it but thought some of you may have more informed opinions. The tickets are going to be sold for £60 with £20 going to charity. The prize, a house in Northern Ireland, is worth £500k (and it is in fairness gorgeous) and the maximum number of tickets they will sell is 25,000.

What do you think? Do you think they will get the sales? Would you buy a ticket at £60? where are they going to get the traffic? Would affiliates be interested in marketing this and if so how much of the 60 would you expect to be paid?

    thanks

    M

not so sure northern ireland is the location that would stir many to reach for the credit card even though it is a really nice place and vasty unappreciated in the UK

I'd have thought a spain/portugal/dubai etc. property would light the fire of desire a bit more

If it had been Scotland then yes, but I am put off by Northern Ireland.

As far as I know, no win a house competition has ever succeeded... and there's been many many attempts.

    Example...
Another Win a House Failure | One Little Duck - Affiliate Blog

My advice would be to sell the house via the usual channels

My dad bought a couple of tickets a few years back for £80 a pop. Ended up getting his money back after 18 months because they couldn't sell enough tickets. And it was for a good cause so plenty of publicity.

Thanks Shane and John, I know what you mean about the location, there probably wouldn't be much interest outside Northern Ireland.

Jason, I read that blog post a few evenings ago, thought it was good and will pass it on.

This person was going to try and do wrap the whole competition up in 3 months Stuart so its good to know the comp you refer to closed after 18.

Thanks again, I appreciate your replies.

I agree that the location (nice as it is) may be the problem here...

Location: Its actually in a wee town famous for its potatoes, do you think that would help

Seriously though, they will offer a cash alternative equal to the house value or the prize fund (if they don't sell enough tickets).

    Thanks again.

I`ve never been one for gambling (apart from the occasional lottery ticket), but theres no way I`d pay £60 for a ticket at odds of 25,000 to 1

    Hi,

I built a group on a social networking site and offered users that signed up to the group the opurtunity to win a house.

Four months later and I have barely got 600 people interested. The group was marketed well, wasnt going to cost the members anything. Their were only two conditions.

    1) The group had to reach 100'000 members

    2) They had to agree to recieve my newsletter.

Ok so maybe people would have though "SPAM" but was geniune enough with a backed sponser.

Thing is I hold out little hope of anything coming of it but I sincerely thought I was on to a winner :-(

I wish you luck with it.

    Jay

And that's the thought of everyone who I've encountered who's set up these kind of competitions.

Even the win a house for £1 and £5 comps have failed to attract the requisite number of entrants to go to the house giving away stage.

Why anyone thinks that their attempt will work, when so many others have failed, I dunno! Many of the one's I've looked at have attracted media attention, TV, newspapers etc... and yet that's still not enough to attract interest!
