It's only a part time site to start with, to pay for nappies for my 14 wk daughter, I plan to try affiliate marketing for 3 months 2 see if I can make it pay.

LOL, there expensive little creatures aren't they

Never get any cheaper either, when they are out of nappies, they then need something else!
I would have a look at other areas as well, don't just stick to cruises if it's the make or break as to whether you carry on with affiliate marketing.
Cruises is a fairly difficult area, it's obviously harder to sell a high value product that people have to save for, than a lower value product they can make a snap decision to buy.
There are many other areas where the commission is much less, but its much easier to convert visitors to sales, and you can still make a decent income from it.
I`m not saying drop your cruise site, obviously stick at it, but do try some other areas as well before you decide affiliate marketing is not for you. With smaller value products you only need a small site to sell them, so you can create a couple of 2 / 3 page sites quickly and give them a try. They could easily key you going while you are getting your cruise site up and running.
As it is, it's wise to have more than one site when your relying on the money. If something bad happens, like Google has a nasty turn and drops your site down to nowhere for a bit (which can and does happen), it can wipe you out. If you have more than one site, it's unlikely all of them will be affected, so you'll still get some income in to tide you through, as opposed to none.
