Brand Bidding

I'm sure this is pretty obvious and that it's been asked dozens of times on here, but what does 'Brand Bidding' actually mean?

When merchants say "no brand bidding".
I always asumed it to mean no bidding on the merchants name (ie. the term "Argos" if you were on the argos program).
However I've just had a brainwave......does it actually mean the product brands? (ie. "sony" if you were selling sony walkmans on the argos program)

I'm even startin to confuse myself!

normally "no brand bidding" means no bidding on the brand terms of the merchant making the statement, not other brands in their product range

so for argos it would be argos related terms, not brand terms of the products they sell too unless specified by argos as such
