whole heartedly agree. it pays to have someone like Simon at the merchant end - otherwise you never know what might happen NEXT![]()
I've recently returned to affiliate marketing after a long break, but I must point out how much easier I'm finding it this time around with good programme managers behind me.
In a previous attempt at affiliate marketing, I was pretty dissapointed in my interactions with them - slow responses and programme approvals, limited advice on offer, and bad untargeted spammy emails to me.
This time around, I'm interacting with the managers at the outset and making a judgement call about how responsive and helpful they are going to be before starting work on any sites. I'd reccomend to others to do the same when choosing between merchants - fire off some emails to all of them and judge by the responses where to invest your effort. Good affiliate manager = greater committment to the channel = best merchant to support IMO.
(Props to Simon at Figleaves and Chris as Sunshine who have provided me with some great advice offline as a newbie!)

I suppose I should also ask in here, any hints on getting the best from your affiliate manager besides the obvious? There is lots of commentary and complaints about networks and merchants, but not so much navel gazing on what makes a good affilaite in this particualr relationship!
