HELP I'M NEW!!!!! AND YOUNG!!!! thats right i'm 14

Now i can bet that affiliate marketing has new people joining everyday thinking that this is a easy way to earn money. I will also bet that most of these new entrepreneurs are above the age of 20. So i thought well if these people can do it why can't I. But you may have caught my jist by now I'm not that old 14 to be exact.

But why dose this mean I can't have a shot at all this. I will admit i don't know the first thing about Affiliate marketing. I'm setting up a website called Young Affiliates UK. This creation of mine is going to be a place for people just like me from 13-18 can come do pretty much what goes one here talk about affiliate marketing and other business matters. And also a place to have a chance to work for me yep thats right i want my business to be enterily run by teenagers. It will give them a place to see what it's like to run and work for a business and since in this modern day the internet is taking over our lives where better to set it up on, but on the web!!

But i need help. This is going to be no simple feat and I was wondering whether there people out there willing to help me? So if you think you can or want to help me get this idea of mine up and running please get in touch.

thought i would let you all know i now have a website up and running Music and Media although still in early development it will hopefully be my chance to start have a real shot at AM and earning some of the green stuff.

your not the first 14 year old to try, and you wont be the last, but you might want to keep your age on the quiet as some of the networks work in a minimum age of 18.

that asside, you can ahve a shot at it. But like you said, you dont have the first clue about AM and you expect to build a business from it and have people work for you. My advise would be start learning it now, dabble with a few sites and see what you can do.

So if you can get a site to rank in google for some semi competative terms yourself.

i can see where both of you are coming from and thank you for your support. I'm going to try and set up a small website and just as you said dabble in AM. try and get some good content in there and get ranked on search engines. if it all goes well i may start going longer but any support or help will be happily taken on.

I would change your email addresses so to cut down on your spam, and also remove your mobile number for now. Keep it to the forums, and eventually hand out your number to those you know and trust. Very friendly board, but some lurkers and spammers around here too.

As for being too young - the nice thing about AM is that anyone, any age, any race, any sex, any thing... can do it with no discrimination whatsoever. There is nothing written down saying a 14yr old wont make it - it all depends on your ideas and how much time you are prepared to give up and follow your hopes and ambitions.

I think the main thing is, don't be afraid to ask. I'm 22 and have only been in affiliate marketing for 6 months. It's a lot to take in, but once you get your head round it, you'll get there. The great thing about a place like this is someone is always willing to help you! So just ask!

If Nick can remember UKAffiliates he really did start affiliate marketing at a young age!

Good luck to you Nick - your age needn't be an obstacle at all - there was an affiliate network which was started by someone not much older than you at the time..

I was thinking

What i really need to do is slow down and look about. what i need is to start a small website with some good content and get some traffic in and ranked on search engine. Now i can cope with designing a website a do a lot of that but it's all the AM stuff what to look for here to place it how to get your traffic up.

But at the same time i need to work on a business plan and model for the business i really want to open. So anyone who can help me get things in order for Young Affiliates UK can they contact me and same with anyone who can show me the ropes at basic setup and running of AM that would also be great

I'd suggest the same advice to you as I would to anyone else: take a few days to read the archives of this forum, the blogs of some of the forum users you find helpful and sign up with a few affiliates networks. You'll get a much better idea of the basics that way and be able to come back and ask targeted questions rather than appealling for someone to help you out. We don't know your experience, skill or dedication levels. People are more likely to mentor you if they see you've made an effort to do things yourself.

On the blog front, I'd recommend Kirsty's (UK Affiliate Marketing Blog - Kirsty's Affiliate Marketing Guide - Affiliate Stuff UK) and Keiron's (Affiliate Marketing Blog from UK Offer Media) blogs for starters. And of course mine (see signature below)

Affiliate networks to start with are Webgains, Paid on Results and Buy.at. Usually I'd say Affiliate Window but they require a £5 deposit to enroll you which leads me on to the next point: you're going to need a credit or debit card and a bank account which might be a problem at your age. You can do without the card if you're not intending to buy any advertising or pay for your web hosting but you'll need a bank account to receive the affiliate payments you'll hopefully receive (a student account should suffice I think).

Also, as mentioned above, a minor under 18 can't enter into a legally binding contract so you may need a parent or guardian to sign up to the affiliate networks, hosting providers etc on your behalf.
