Just a guess, are you using firefox on the mac?
Anyway there is a big issue with this - it appears to be connected with the flash plugin for the browser made by adobe not quite behaving itself according to published spec for how it should interact.
This then bumps into security restrictions on some servers.
There are various workarounds talked about, some involve lowering security in that area using a .htaccess file, others involve using the flash uploader for a previous version or the one used in a custom upload plugin.
Personally I'm just uploading from IE on XP and it's working fine.
[Haven't tried safari must do so.]
Anyway, do a web search - there are big problems in this area.
Methinks there might be a couple of different unrelated problems that sometimes coexist as different issues are reported. All seems to be the flash based uploader, not 2.5 itself.
