I don't know if this has been suggested before but there is a regular flow of posters asking the forum members to comment on their sites. At the moment they pop up all over the place.

Could there be a separate section for this - I think it could be really useful, especially for merchants ?

If you have a new business, whether selling tangible products or an affiliate site, its actually not that easy to get a random selection of people to comment on it at the early stages (apart from your mates, who probably know too much already to give an objective opinion). Many site builders can't justify the spend on full blown useability tests - so even a random selection of 10 posts can help get over the hurdle of removing the big mistakes and navigational blunders that are certain to occur.

This is one of the few places where there are a lot of experienced people, across all sorts of backgrounds, with all sorts of opinions who have used a lot of sites.

However would it be possible to have a forum section for members looking for people to work on their site?

I have tried all the freelance sites and always seem to get a muppet. I would love to put an ad on here to get some help with content writing and design but their doesn't seem to be anywhere to ask for a request.

Great idea, I would use this, especially having paid people for code, design and content in the past, all with varying levels of success. Would be great to have a dedicated section not only to find people to do work, but to share feedback on things like freelance sites.

    To add to aotagain's post-

how's about an affiliate newbie section where peeps can introduce themselves, have a FAQs thread and ask for help, new site reviews etc?

With the forum as it stands any intro posts in the Affiliate Lounge are soon lost as are the helpful hints and tips that get posted in response to newbies questions-

imo a newbie section with FAQs would encourage more posters to err, post and also help tidy up the Aff Lounge forum-

    what do you reckon?

I would like to see more posts fit in my screen at the same time.

The username, membership title, join date and posts space takes up a large chunck of the screen and would be better moved to the left.

At the moment you can only see 2 replys per screen.

Ability to filter forums from the View New Posts - most annoying when the same 'offer' is posted in loads of forums.

Thanks for the suggestions. We had a meeting yesterday to discuss the ideas and put as many of them into action as possible.

Please remember though that for some of the tweaks we are bound by vbulletin and their functionality however if you know of any hacks etc that you have seen installed on other forums that you would like here please let us know.

a marketplace forum sounds like a good idea, and I also agree on having some kind of quick forum navigation - I'll pass this over to Pete.

    keep em coming

Look forward to the developments Matt.

The Instant Messenger contact info about forum posts (mine) can't be edited, as well as the text below the username, where mine says 'Nihil Sine Labore'. No ability to edit them in the Options in vBulletin or My Profile.

Appears like the text and IM details are still being used from the previous incarnation of the A4U forums.

Ni Nadeem, yes I have noticed that, it was one of the complications with utilising vbulletin and our own system.

I'll get the developers to look at a fix for this so users can change it.

    Thanks,
    Matt

Not sure if it's feasible - but a mobile friendly 'lite' version of the forum/site would be quite nice.

You could look at introducing a "show printer friendly" version that might help here so the Blackberry et al users could have it as their default display.

What I would really like to see though is a little highlight around a users name that says this user has updated his/her blog today. It would take a little input from the bloggers themselves to notify the forum that their blog has been updated but it would pay off.

After having spent a considerable amount of time away from the forum of late, I have returned to find an incredibly valuable amount of info (of every description) on various a4u members blogs (2 many to mention individuals) and if I am browsing the forum and see that xx has updated his/her blog that day, I would certainly go and see what they have to say.

Not every blogger out there of course but a certain level of user upon reaching the required forum status perhaps.

You guys must be as bored as a nun in a library.

    I personally wouldn't change Jack Sh*t.

The question sort of reminds me of when Coca Cola changed the recipe in the late 80's early 90's (can't remember the exact timing but thats due to a different brand of coke).

They asked Joe public what they would like - developed it, tested it, launched it.

    Sales collapsed and heads rolled.

The flaw was they forgot to ask if people liked it just the way it was.

Didn't take em too long to revert but sure cost 'em a lot of Coke sales.

    Affico

On second thoughts, any chance of some chick-pics, you know the sort of stuff where they're wearing tight JD shirts? Maybe some Chippendale stuff for the ladies?

    I'll get my jacket...

    how about either
a : replying to the pm with a solution
