Hiya first and foremost i would like to thank everybody for their time i have replied on most occasions and once again looking to rebuild the website, thanks for all the constructive advice and if anybody has anymore feel free to mail me many thanks
What planet are you on?
"Nice site"...
It was dreadful and just got more dreadful.
Like I said before... The one positive is the lady is learning. That's it. Period.
I just looked again at the latest version and its worse than before.
YOU people are wasting her time.
It looks dreadful, it is a code nightmare, it will not get traffic from SEO, if you paid to get traffic it would not convert. If you offered to pay visitors money to buy something they would not because they wouldn't trust the site... (catch my drift?) Stop wasting this girls time.
The ONE positive (I find myself repeating myself) is this lady (and whoever's) EFFORT. This needs channeling into a fresh start before she wastes anymore time.
Start again. Get a decent design and build on it.
On another note one or two people (more in fact) are offering to help you here. I did and heard nothing...
That's cool, that's your prerogative.
Now TBP has offered... Take 5 out and ask what you really want to achieve here?
Do you want to spend another 3 months creating a bigger "mess" just so you can benefit some more from the "learning" element.
Sit back. Think. Accept some help and guidance. Help and guidance in starting all over again. You've clearly got the will.
The "will" is the most important thing of all, the next is making a solid foundation and then some money.
...And I'm in a good mood...
Aff.

No problem Katy,
I think that it would be a good idea if you ask for opinions as you go along, rather than waiting until the site is finished. That way if anything goes off track then it can be corrected before you go to far, so you don't do extra work.
Hiya, was wondering is Front page any better than macromedia or should i just stick with macromedia?
Frontpage is absolutely horrendous, its the worst "web design" program out there.
Creates massively bloated code. Stick with Dreamweaver, thats the best tool!
yeah, Frontpage is awful. A few years ago, I was on a web development course and after introductions there was a show of hands for who used frontpage, dreamweaver or notepad. The one Frontpage user got laughed at...
As I mentioned earlier in the thread, learn HTML and CSS from the base up. Use Dreamweaver, but use code view and flick back to design view just to have a quick look (if at all - you've got to preview in browser really - never trust Dreamweaver layout!)
I can't stress this enough - if you don't know HTML very very well, you'll struggle to get good results. Even Dreamweaver code can be a bit rubbish - but not to the same degree as Frontpage!
Have a look at css Zen Garden: The Beauty in CSS Design for what can be achieved through basic HTML and good css. A great site will always get customers, and as intimidating as it looks, HTML and CSS is not hard to learn.
Hi
First time I've seen this thread and I must say I agree with 'Affi'
Taken a look at the website and its terrible!
( WD Better than my first attempt though )
I admire your enthusiasm:tup but I'm afraid its not going to get you too far with this website.
Sure the best thing you can do is keep playing with designs - that way you will learn how to use dreamweaver and that in itself takes a long time by the trial and error method.
The only tip I'm gonna give as I think its the most important one, is Don't spend any money on it.
Don't like a few have suggested run a PPC campaign on it - thats just insane.
Why would you do that when you could link straight to a merchant site with all the bells and whistles - beggars belief
I'm not trying to take the wind out of your sails here - keep on practising.
Just bear in mind your a good couple of years away from publishing your first site though
If that still doesn't daunt you then Crack on! N GL![]()
P.s. btw I did it your way and 5 years on still no millionaire LOL
Well, no frankly. Have you ever used it and looked at the code? It's probably the worst product Microsoft ever made - certainly the worst I've ever used.
If a hairdresser was on a training course and told everyone they used blunt, 10 year old 99p scissors from Woolworths, there'd be a few chuckles. Same thing really. As a tool of the trade, it's laughable.
Babraes, Definitely will be pm-ing you thank you for your help, as soon as ive sorted out some technical problems weve been having, we will send you off a pm.
we will carry on using Dreamweaver, however difficult it may be, were determined to get this right.
At present, were working on both hometouches, and e-electronics.co.uk (if you look just now you will see were having a few (a lot :scared ) of issues with the template, were hoping to design this completely different to how we designed hometouches, keeping all of your good advice in mind, we will do a page, then ask for your opinion if thats not too much to ask from you all.
Once again, Thanks for all your support and advice, anyone who offered to help via pm, expect to receive one very soon! Thanks Again.
I have just looked at your front page, which doesnt match the rest of the site pages, I presume you are working on that code and are going to move the rest of the site into that style?
As said many times in this thread, you really need to work on building a site, getting things positioned where YOU want them, getting the colours YOU want etc etc.
I found that choosing a site that you like the look of and then working out the code for how they achieved it was a good way of learning. Maybe make a folder on your server and try and emulate a site you like the look of in there, rather than doing it all 'live'.
Another way to get your head around the basics would be to get a template and then strip it right down, saving a copy each time so you can go back. This might give you a few 'aahhh, i see' moments.
Applying to programmes while you are still learning the basics might get you declined if the affiliate manager does not like what he or she sees. Although you could re apply at a later date if that happens.
Keep plugging away at it, read as many tutorials on css and html as you can - the learning curve for all this is manageable but it might be best to learn each area in chunks.
Oh and back up lots too : )
All the best
Stakker
Edit - PS- You should also remove the raw email address from your source code, either encrypt it or use a form somewhere, otherwise you are going to get spammed.
Personally, I would work on just one site at a time - learn on that and then copy the layout/system over to the other site - you can then easily change the layout by changing the css.
Not sure what tech issues you are having with the hosting - let us know we may be able to help!
Erm... for web development training. Is there a hidden subtext I'm missing here?![]()
2002-2006 I did a lot of web work for the company I worked for. These days, I'm working purely with servers, networking and DB. My web skills are only used for hobbies and spare time money making. Wouldn't say I was an expert, but I'm competent with HTML, CSS, PHP and mySQL.
