It's 25th April today and I got suspended for the second time.
The first time I got suspended was 20th April 2007.
Almost a year to the day.
Astley Clarke, don't bother me again.
You have have been suspended from the Astley Clarke (mid:1433) affiliate
programme. Please do not respond to this automated email, if you would like
to discover the precise reasons for the suspension please contact the
affiliate manager direct from your account.
Actually what I will do is not bother. And remove any links from my website and send my traffic elsewhere.

I was going to post something small and petty, about shocking communication, lack of insight, and the superior knowledge that someone has to simply suspend all/majority/some affiliates on the basis that they have low/no sales....sod content is king, do not underestimate the power of communication. We see it over and over again, 10 days worth of work prior to the suspension to talk to affiliates and understand how they are looking to promote you (even if they are not atm!) will save a lot of headaches and will help your programme grow in a healthy way...after the consultation period, then explain to affs that they are being removed, but that if they want to rejoin to get in touch. Transparency in this sort of communication will ease the path to success. Bye bye Astley Clarke.
I apologise that affiliates were not communicated to directly regarding their suspension from the Astley Clarke affiliate scheme.
In future, communication will be directed to those individual affiliates that may be affected by changes to the Astley Clarke affiliate scheme.
Best Regards
Astley Clarke.
But why suspend them in the first place? - and please do not come out with the free up management time drivel that usuallly happens in these circumstances - it does not free up one second of time so either you, or the agency/network giving you advice is seriously misguided.
Oh and don't give us the 'so we can work more closely with our affiliates' line either - if you worked more closely with them you wouldn't need to do a cull.
Never argue with idiots. They just drag you down to their level and then beat you with their experience.
If ignorance is bliss then some of the people I know must be orgasmic.
I got this version of the emailSo you're not suspended, well you are, but just while they decided whether to suspend you or not. ehh?We are in the process of refining our affiliate programme & looking at sites that have generated sales vs those that have not with the aim of reducing our number of affiliates to a more manageable number - so that we can develop more exclusive affiliate deals.
This may mean that some affiliates are suspended whilst this review process takes place. We apologise for any inconvenience
u need to look at the bigger picture , it does no harm to have affiliates on the program that are not generating sales , they maybe still learning or building ideas to their site.
These quiet affiliates could be the BIG affiliates of the future so you should treatt all the same.
What you should be doing is asking the affiliates with few sales what you can do for them to help increase their sales, developing the business.
you could look at sunshine.co.uk and see what they are doing for small affiliates , big affiliates and even introducing new affiliates , now that is a company that will generate millions as they are encouraging affiliates (even tiny ones) as i guess they can see that sun shining at the end of the tunnel![]()
well it might just be me - but I think they are doing you a favour!
Let's face it - you're either sending them traffic or you're not, so ...
If you're not sending any then, obviously, you're visitors aren't interested - so I'd replace them with something else that would interest them
If you are sending traffic and it's not converting, then, obviously there's something wrong at their end - so you might as well send your visitors somewhere else in the hope that they might convert.
It's a no brainer - I'd send them a thankyou letter![]()

Madness imo. Take 2 circumstances:
1. Affiliate X, who is relatively small and hasn't got anything planned on a big scale puts up a few pages quickly and earns a few quid a month from a merchant. Merchant happy, affiliate carries on.
2. Affiliate Y, is preparing a larger scale assault on affiliate marketing, complete with a strategy for a portal of some sort. It could take a year to set up. Y needs to get loads of merchants signed up for a big launch, get the links into the database, generate a load of deeplinks etc. etc.
So Y signs up to loads of merchants and generates nowt for months on end.
So who do you want to keep ?
More importantly, how do you know which affiliate is which ?
Unfortunately there are very few clues of course, as affiliate Y is not about to go around telling everyone of their humungous plan...
Ashley who?
