Google does the Hokey-Cokey

I've got a newly launched site that earlier last week had 1,300 pages indexed. Later that week G picked up most of the other pages and ended the week with 8,400 pages indexed. On Sat it was back down to 2,500 and then this am back down to the original 1,300 pages.

Is this normal for a new site?

Ps. The domain has been live since Oct 07 with 30-40 pages on it to get the domain indexed but the actual site was only launched a month ago.

Could be to do with Data Centers - different data centers maybe picking up different amount of pages??

I am seeing 6,420 of your pages indexed on one data center and 13000+ on others, it is normal to see variations across various data centers since there constantly changing and updating.

Also, there is a lot of chatter on Webmasterworld and other forums about the flux in indexed pages and crawl rate with Google this past week.

I have sites experiencing the same thing. I'd give it a few weeks to settle down.

Thanks for the responses guys. I've started to find a few threads about the same topic on others sites and it does seem to be the different data-centres and the big G.
