CSS 'HR' rule which will work in Firefox

Does anyone know a simple CSS code to make a 1px dotted line for 'HR' tag which works in firefox and explorer.

I've tried using a gif image but can't make it work in firefox?

this forum uses it like;

<hr style="color: rgb(153, 153, 153);" size="1">

works in both.

the hr tag should work in ie and firefox.

edit,

ie7 uses that (on this forum)

<hr size="1" style="color: #999999" />

may prove useful.
