with such shortage of people with knowledge on affiliate marketing, you could consider working part time for networks/agencies or do consulting for merchants; this will get you out of the house and use your expertise in a different way - make a difference to someone else's life!

Get an office, set a coder and designer on and step back, just be the ideas man and get others to impliment them, You'll make less cash for a while as there will be wages and bills but have a sense of building something tangible that's more than just you And there will be a clear line between home and work.

to paraphrase the rich dad poor dad dude :

stop carrying buckets of water and build a pipeline

That is something that I have been considering, but I am unsure as to the best way to go about it.

Currently I make use of freelance sites like elance and odesk for outsourcing needs and this suits me fine, as I can pick and choose people to do jobs which are appropriate for the task. The jobs I offer are varied and not soley restricted to the expertise of coders or designers.

As you know there are many facets to internet marketing and to employ a couple of people who are only experts in specific IT fields may not be the best way forward....or maybe Im wrong? If anyone has went down this route of expansion, I would be interested in hearing your views and advice.

    I agree FWIW.

I think it's important to know you're not alone here. I make a comfortable living on 10 hours work a week, but I can't turn it into a fantastic living on 40 hours because once i am comfortable the drive disappears. Or more accurately is squandered into hours of forums and inconsequential stuff.

Having once had a team whose wages needed paying i swore I would never go back there, but it may be a case of "be careful what you ask for". Life is easy, but boring. Example, I have a great domain - GoNow.co.uk that is a no-brainer for selling late availability holidays, for which there are plenty of feeds. But it still carries the local football club site I practised site-building on years ago because I just yawn at the prospect of doing something with it. (Actually if anyone with some energy wants to lease it off me for a revenue share please get in touch - just thought of that while I was whinging).

I think there is something about easy money from a home PC that just saps the energy for other things. However once my knee gets better I will go back to distracting myself with tennis three days a week and i won't notice

Good luck with coming op with something

yes i have to say that sometimes you do lose interest in affy marketing.

Been full time (bedroom affiliate) for 5 years now and although money is not really an issue any more..can live off the interest affy marketing has given me..which I am eternally grateful for...I felt I needed a fresh approach/change of scenery..so last week moved into a new office in the local university.

Its a shared desk policy run by Technium digital, which gets Govt funding...great facilities...means I can cycle to work, have a shower etc, it gets rid of the cobwebs and you feel fresher and more active, which I think you work better in that state of mind.

Of course I get away and travel as much as I can but I agree that money isnt everything. As long as you are active and happy and seeking new challenges that is the main thing!

I would advise caution with setting up an office. Ive seen plenty of business fail as they add overheads they really dont need and all of a sudden cash flow has taken a hit that you cant recover from.

I am just learning about affiliate marketing and its a perfect complement to my main finance business. I have got the finance side running smoothly and generating good cash flow while only taking up around 10 hours a week. I enjoy getting out and seeing my customers, especially in summer.

If you want any info on setting up a home credit business send me a PM. Its not for everyone but is the perfect complement to "jobs" that have a flexible nature like web marketing and property development.

Sounds like a major burnout. I spend a lot of time playing snooker, my hobby, down at the local with my mates, so mixing business with pleasure is my way of evening things out. Now the summer has arrived I shall be spending a lot of time out and about, day trips with the missus and daughter, lots of birthday do's coming up too.

During the winter I suffered burnout too, but before aff marketing I used to be a plasterer, and to be quite honest, I still do miss going to different sites using my manual skills that kept me sane. So during the winter I went back helping a mate out in the plastering trade for a few months in Manchester and came back refreshed with new ideas, I was due to go and help him with some work last month but I broke my hand and am currently in plaster, a major downer as I was looking forward to a small break from the laptop, but I got a small break in my hand instead.

If you feel you have reached your current goal then you should alter it slightly, become a merchant, get a shop, build its name, and if you get bored of that you can always sell up and move on.

I used to work eBay, buying wholesale and selling for profit, until eBay got greedy that is. I used to love the idea of getting products in on the cheap and seeing how much I could profit from them, keeping one or two items back for myself, my missus or friends/family. Mail order at its best, I own several small cool items like Ralph Lauren Wallets, some decent tools for home repairs, t-shirts & aftershaves, plus other stuff I care not to mention :sneaky

One day when (or if) I do make a success and feel I have gone as far in aff marketing as I can, the above options are what I will consider. I consider a success where I can freely invest money without worry, i.e:- more than I can live off after bills, gifts, boozing :tup. At least, if you run a shop or two then you are not stuck just in one place and the work scene is not always the same. You could be negotiating prices for stock, weighing up advertising solutions that you have learned in your time, it could take your knowledge one step further and if you do start getting good at it you could branch out even further, it just depends how hungry for success you are.

I do admit though, sometimes it can be hard to get motivated, but I'm sure you'll think of something to get you through it. I would stick to the online stuff, it seems you have a knack for it, but take a different approach. Like the above posters said, you could hire somebody to do it for you, train a relatives son/daughter up or something, pass on your knowledge, even if they do it part time around college. Best to keep it in the family

I'm in a similar situation Hens00, except it sounds like I have FAR less money than you Making money's great, but after a point, it's not particularly satisfying unless it's via some kind of incredible noteworthy site. I often think, in 20 years time, what am I going to have to look back on? It's all a bit boring. I'm fed up with sitting in front of the computer.

So, I'm getting some materials and I'm going to make some stuff to sell. Actually manufacture it myself and dabble with being a merchant. By no means a life long plan, but just the change would be good for a while, more than anything.

It sounds like you could also do with a gripping hobby! Something I plan on doing is learning to fly. Already had a few lessons. It's something completely different, and a fantastic challenge. Certainly a good change of scenery to "the office" and obviously gets you out and about (if you don't mind that being few thousand feet up )

If you wanna stick with being an affiliate, why not try a different form of marketing. For example, if you've made your money via PPC - try your hand at SEO or email marketing instead.

    I Got it...

Learn how to make a nuclear bomb.

Put it in your living room and set the timer to 7 seconds.

You'd get the new skill set your looking for AND have to leave the house sharpish..

    Interesting!

You can easily live interenet lifestyle through affiliate marketing. In your case, as you're already getting automated income, why not leave your house and have some fun.

Try to go for a long holiday though, you would be get relaxed.

Youve hit the nail on the head there.

I wouldnt really say I earn a substantial amount, but its more than enough to keep me going. Its weird because money used to be my main drive - all I wanted was to make a money through affiliate marketing, but now Ive made a bit of it, the money itself doesnt really matter as much as the success of creating it.

Before getting into affiliate marketing when I was still working 9-5, I used to spend money left right and centre on various materialistic crap, but now the crap doesnt matter to me even though I have the money to buy it.

If you're not suited to working at home then get some office space?
If you're bored of affiliate marketing then get another job.

Yeah you're right. Think I might become a porn star or nuclear bomb maker like Affi suggested.

If you don't want to employ people, you might want to think about partnering up with someone for new projects. It's hard when you're on your own, but I always felt more motivated when I was working in a team. Ideally you need to find someone near you with a complementary skillset.
