Indeed. That is a great quote and currently sums up my position at the repeatedly carrying buckets of water stage.

So I am introducing a tap [developer] who can lighten the load and make things flow more smoothly.

If i had loads of time and money on my hands, i think i would become a mad scientist inventor. Then go on dragons den to meet my hero , Peter Jones (phwoar)

Id invent loads of crazy things in the bottom of my garden, in a cleverly concealed shed!

Buy a video camera and make movies... channel 4 are running a competition at the moment for short movies...

go to the library, having picked a number at random, find the book with that number on it, and ta da... new hobby...

    Busk for a day

go to ikea, but some flat pack stuff and build it... art it up abit and sell it on...

i'll think of more ideas later, right now i have a holiday to win!

Apply for a regular job, preferably a position working on a production line in a factory with an 8am start, stick it out for a month at least and then go back to AM.

Suddenly AM looks a whole lot more appealing

Theres a lot of truth there!!

I got soooooo bored of being an affiliate at one time that I jacked it all in (well 95% of it) and started a much less profitable and much harder business being an agency. Wouldn't change it for the world, love what we do now etc. But I did have a MUCH easier life before!

Why not apply to be a school governor (or similar), certainly fills my spare time (not that I have any)

Take an ongoing cut of their business in turn for helping achieve what you have.?

Can start with me if you like :tup

I would have to be dragged back to full time employment kicking and screaming...

Yes working from home does have its downsides,

but just think of the one overriding upside:

    - No more office politics!

I agree with all of the above. We have three children under the age of four so money and time are two things we don't have much of. Kick yourself up the @rse and make the most of every minute, hour, day!

And share some of your success secrets with the rest of us heh heh:tup

I must have been in a weird mood when I posted earlier, god damn those mood swings, I love this game really!!!
    - or maybe it was the mention of going back to a production line Ahh them where the days of 12 hours shifts, continental shifts, sunday shifts, evening shifts, morning shifts and any time you have left shifts.

I wish I could mentor people into this industry!! Believe me I have tried it with almost everyone I know and you know what, most people I know in the end prefer to be in a job and work 9-5.

madog - that sounds so cool, the only trouble being is that my car would be a £500 skoda and the extras to tune it would only be 99p for a pine car freshener. Do you think I could make it? Well I have sent for info anyway, nice one.

    btw
Thanks chromate I just booked my first flying lessons on your suggestion. lol

    2 things:
Its easy to get stale if you don't have good boundaries in the working week. Surprisingly stale. It seems great to be able to 'spread' work out, taking a break midweek and then working in the evening. However that basically spreads out work to be present on every single day of the week.

Obviously you might have strict boundaries anyway, but its so easy with the PC sitting there to 'go and have a look'. 7am, midnight, 3pm on a Sunday. In reality most sites won't fall apart just because you didn't do anything at all at the weekend.

A holiday is a one-off. Boundaries work all year.
Shame to get burn-out in the same way that you might if you were doing a corporate job.

Secondly, if you've got the skills there isn't exactly a flood of knowledgeable, skilled people in the affiliate world (except here of course !). So a hunt for part-time work is worthwhile. It hasn't all been acquired by agencies. Small and medium sized businesses know what agencies cost. If you go in at a modest price you're happy with (not necessarily the market price) it doesn't mean you're too cheap - it just means you're paying a bit for human contact !

The trouble with spending less time on working is that you then can't say you're too busy to do things that you don't want to do. You just can't win.

If you have spare cash, why not see if you have a local business angel group or VC and start investing in start-up companies, you often get to be involved in the company as part of the investment and can attend board/management meetings - or just be a silent partner.

Its also a great way to meet other people who have money and don't necessarily work and they may have hobbies where you can meet up and join in...

You can start the 1st investment with me if you like :tup
