I need to come up with some really simple tasks to give my assistant which will help with my efforts. She's just young and doesn't grasp the concepts of SEO link building etc. Any ideas for stuff that could be good for a beginner in this sort of thing?

    Nice one!

I wish they had a printed version for sale... I would give it to all of my clients before commencing work with them.

If you don't mind paying $50 a month, I would recommend signing up to the new SEOBook community. There is a lot of useful information for the beginner in the training sections and in the forums, there are some great minds responding to questions from every level of expertise.

Yea it's often hard to explain why you're doing something when they don't understand the reasoning behind it. That seems a pretty good guide though.

Unfortunatly $50 a month seems a little steep, I don't think my boss would go for it.

What industry are you in? It depends on how you outlay your site(s), if you write a lot of news to your community you could always try linkbaiting and press releases, some article writing and submissions. SEO is not a sector to be taken lightly, you could pile all of your time into one site, slowly getting it higher in ranks, then Google hit you and your back to square 1. One wrong move could tag your site.

It doesn't always work like this, but its better to have something to fall back upon in case it does, it just depends on your planning. Steer away from pure black hat SEO, there is no escaping it.

Create a blog for your site, submit your RSS feed to feedburner and others. Create good content that others wish to link to and get involved in the community. You could use the strength of your blog to promote your main site, deep-linking specific and numerous keywords to certain pages of the main site, although not overdoing it.

    Hi Tezza,

Thanks for the advice. I'd agree with pretty much all of it which is why I'm reluctant to just let my assistant loose with much of my work.

I always avoid any kind of blackhat so that isn't an issue.

I've had her doing quite a few articles and stuff but i'm even finding it quite hard to teach her how to write those from a SEO point of view.

The blog and news parts of our site will be included in the new development so thats something for the future.

If you're interested, the site is www.BuyCatering.com which is in the Catering Equipment industry.
