Yes, you would be better off registering, its only £35.
Even though IMO its just another waste of time.
Makes me laugh how your always told that a website is secure when is has a padlock on the bottom. In reality its only the transfer of information thats been protected. Any old person can buy a 'padlock' for their domain for a couple of dollars and with no proof of identity.

Completely agree with you, its become a ridiculous situation!
With Thawte they make you jump through hoops before you get a certificate, which is the way it should be. However now you can get a certificate in 15 minutes for under $20 with no checks what so ever.
Renders the whole concept of secure certificates useless, as any malware site can get their own certificate and their site looks "secure".
Really shouldn't of been allowed to come to this, and the only way round it now is to come up with a new system, which means the years spent educating users has been wasted.
Yes I was amazed when I bought my first security certificate. All that happened was a computer from America rang me up, asked me to say yes or no to 'is your name Barry Wright?' - and that was it!!
There should be a more stringent procedure for getting a secure site for sure.
