Can someone explain PPC to me?

There seems to have been a fair bit of talk about PPC on the forums recently ... and it's made me realise that I really don't totally understand how it works from an affiliate point of view.

Sure, I understand the auction model that Google operates. You PPC affiliates presumably do your research and find some attractive keywords to various products that aren't too competitive and bid on them so that your ads appear as paid listings in Google.

But what I don't get is:
  • Do you link directly to the merchant's site?
  • I've heard alot of talk about "PPC landing pages". Why are they any different to normal landing pages? From what I've seen a lot of PPC landing pages seem to be just banner farms ... in which case why would you link to them rather than a well worded website?

Apologies for the totally 'noob' question but thanks in advance for your help ... am I roughly right in what I'm assuming to be correct? Or am I missing something major here?

Thanks alot

Yes and no, depends on the mercant and your choice of doing so if allowed, some guys ONLY do direct, some do both, some preferr to send to their own site, pros and cons of both, mainly sending direct sets a cookie and the merchant *Should* be able to convert that traffic if it's targeted enough, yet sending to own site means you can explain the offering better (if merchant site sucks) or offer/compare more than one product/service or merchant's offering.

Landing pages that are just banner farms should end up paying more in google at some stage than a well laid out high quality, text heavy (but fast loading) landing/product page,

There shouldn't really be much difference with a landing page and a product page really when you think about it, I guess from an affiliate poing of view a landing page may just emphasise the product/service being pushed with big call to actions, trying to give the user enough info to get them off the site and applying/buying at the merchants site ASAP.

Re: Can someone explain PPC to me?

I am trying to find some affiliates to run PPC for us. Where is the best place to find people to do this? We did run googleAd's last year which generated good sales but where a pain to manage.

Thanks

Peter

Hi MJ,

You seem to have had a feeble response to date (although some fair tips above). Today is your lucky day.

I'm sending out a freebie article tomorrow on this.

If you want a PDF version just mail a request affiliate[@]bethere.co.uk, or drop me a PM (I prefer email as my PM box fills up if I don't keep on top of it).

As you know I never blow my own bugle but it is an awesome PPC article that will not only save you years of learning, it also reveals a lot of stealth white hat techniques amongst others explaining how to get consitent and perfect QS (no matter what sector).

One snippet shows a white hat but controversial method that I have seen deliver 50% CTR all day long... My US buddy made $8,000 in 48 hours the first time he tried it and it only requires you adding 1 word to your ad copy. All in the free article...

I'm very handsome and get all the girls.

Aff

Re: Can someone explain PPC to me?

Strewth...

I've had quite a lot of requests for the articles as a result of this post. Good old a4u: helping me helping you ha ah..

Just to make one point clear - I had 4 people ask me the same thing...

There is "no catch" what's with this mentallity? The articles are free and all though they are aimed at noobs they still include some stealth tactics for the pro's (white hat). Simple as that.

Sh*t I've been given em away for free for over a year now - think if there was anything sinister about it I'd have been hung drawn and quartered by now.

The one word tactic - is mind blowing = Put ONE WORD in your ad copy and quadruple your CTR....

OK I'll tell you now - it's "RECALL" - elaborated on in todays article...

I actually have struck up a lot of joint projects as the result of my free stuff and made some good friends (sure many of them just wanna hang with me cos of the chicks)...

Anyway - that's why. Plus I like helping people. It's replaced my previous hobby of train spotting.

Think we should thank a4u again - I certainly wouldn't have got where I had without this place. I'd have still been lazing on the beach...

Cheers Aff.
