How about something for people who have too many ideas, and not enough hours in the day to put them in to action. That really would be useful!

Lol this is the EXACT reason I made a post about it, as it stops me from looking for more things to do, to add onto the list of other things which need doing

I know the feeling well

This has opened a brand new can of worms

I have been waiting for a long time for them to do this, I never thought they would. It makes it great for testing how accurate the data is without getting involved in PPC. The searches are just for UK traffic right? And how accurate would you say this data is on a percentage scale?

I am sure you will agree, this makes it an excellent SEO tool as well as PPC, I'm very surprised they are releasing this data, unless more users are turning to YPN and Adcenter?

Thanks for the post Smingle, I would never have seen it otherwise as I dont use PPC very often.

Terry

I'm not, what I'm surprised at is that the button saying "sign up with these keywords" isn't in huge neon lettering.

Now the top end of the generic phrases are so expensive it's much harder to make a profit, they need advertisers to start spreading their campaigns more widely.
Tools like this give them the confidence and justification to do that (even if the data is pretty shonky!)

Re: just a little something for all people who get stuck for ideas.....

Hmm, I suppose, but thats just me looking in from a different angle being more into SEO than PPC.

I have got to admit the data looks not just a little, but a lot off, I have a generic domain that is number 1 for its 2 word search term, yet this keyword tool says over 4,400 approx searches in June... yah, I wish! So far I am at 57 searches and they are not all from Google, yet most are. Am I simply misunderstanding the tool? I used it on exact match and got 4,400 for June and 18,100 average search volume, but I can assure you it is nowhere near that.

This brings me back to my question, how does this tool calculate UK traffic, or does it?, does anyone know? I'm guessing its not just searches from Google.co.uk? Maybe UK IP address coming from .com too if somebody wants global traffic and it adds that to the mix? And of course Google partners, would that make up the big difference?

Sorry about the lack of knowledge for it but I have not used it for a long while, I have been using that Keyword Discovery one whos data is also a little shakey

(The above info I have of course kept in mind the amount of PPC clicks will be taken from it, but it shouldn't make too much difference)

Cheers
Terry

That number you have is how many people clicked through to your site, not how many times that phrase was searched for. You'll be lucky to get a 40% clickthrough even with a top notch listing, more like 5-15%.

If you are at #1 for a phrase for PPC all month with an exact matching ad, then the number of impressions shown should match the number of exact searches for that phrase in the Keyword tool. It doesn't by a long shot.

I think the geography is part of the problem, I've seen several instances where the number of searches for a term in the UK exactly matches the global volume, i.e. no-one is looking for it except on UK. Clearly not right in the instances I was looking at.

I've also seen far too may US phrases in the UK search results recently to believe that they're filtering the results correctly.

Take them with a pinch of salt, use it to work out if niche A is bigger than niche B, but don't rely on the absolute numbers just yet.
