Yesterday i got a phone call from a new network (well i'm guessing they are new as i've never heard of them!)
After a few minutes of talking about what they had to offer i asked the guy how he got my details & i was shocked when he said someone who works for another UK Affiliate Network had passed them on to me.
When i asked him who, he said sorry i can't say as he will lose his job. TBH I'm not fussed that someone has called me as thats how business is, but what i am shocked about is that someone from another network is abusing the system passing our details round like a bag of sweets in a playground.
In the past few months i've had this happen a couple of other times.
Has anyone else had this problem?
Would be good to find out who it is as i'm sure if i remember when joining alot of the affiliate networks all those years ago it stated in the T&Cs that our details would not be passed on!
I've had similar issues in the past, and sometimes receive emails on an account only used by the networks. I'm only signed up to a few networks, so one is giving details away!
it's not just a data protection issue, it is totally illegal, I guess he would be sacked for telling you who his dealer was
Our details are not really safe at all when it comes to business leads, there is a new initiative I notice today with the government but it is all bluster, trying to look like they are doing something but not actually doing anything ..
Pretty certain that under the Data Protection Act you at least have the right to know what information is held about you and get it removed if you wish, or you can take the company to court.
