I attended a teacher training day yesterday where we we given a seminar on e-marketing basics from an Econsultancy lecturer (I'm not sure i should name names!).

He had a section on affiliate marketing, where on his slide with definitions on there was a picture of Del Boy. I was absolutely astonished. Of course I challanged him on why it was there and why he though affiliates where eseentially 'dodgy dealers'. It appears that his view is very much circa 2001 - affiliate marketing is a dark art and you cannot be sure how the sale has been achieved.

I can't believe that someone who lectures and gets paid to run seminars on these subjects has such arcaic views on affiliate marketing! I'm wondering whether I should email him with an invitation to the A4U expo?

    Anyway, rant over!

A few years ago i went on Windows 2K training (was a few years ago) and learnt absolutly nothing.

The lecturer knew naff all and the course was terrible. All these seminars seem to be to generalised and out of date nomatter what subject from lecturers who arent well up on the idustry anymore

Well the ones ive been to anyway

    That's Nadeem!

The guy had more knowledge than you credit him for!

(in case you don't know - Nadeem used to be known for his Del Boy avatar!)

Red, I would bring it up to eConsultancy - they have affiliate marketing seminars, run by Keith, and I very much doubt they would appreciate having someone unknowledgeable slagging off this industry.

I am really concerned about this as it obviously needs correcting.

Please can you PM or email me the name of the e-consultancy lecturer and I will be sure to raise it with the e-consultancy training team - looks like I may need to 'enlighten' some of the other lecturers

    Thanks

    Keith
Never argue with idiots. They just drag you down to their level and then beat you with their experience.

After several years of using the Delboy avatar, as loved as it was, I deliberately changed it as I wanted to project my business in a more professional manner.

As the above case highlights, sadly myths about affiliate marketing abound, though sometimes they are based on the real actions of a few. We need to all ensure that we are doing everything we can to project our industry as professionally as possible.

What do you mean by the 'Del Boy' approach?

I can relate to the 'del boy' approach, - his character has certain connotations that are not deserved.

Probably best you don't, it never helps.

Went to a similar thing tonight (or was it yesterday-never mind)
fu@#n it I'll do the naming for all of us, my missus Tracy Anderson was crying her eyes out tonight. She is the sharpest merketeer I have ever known and because she shifted the focus slightly overt the last few weeks to give the truants & hooligans an opportunity to experience something that might put a few quid in their pocket in years to come she got blasted by a couple of numptys who were jealous of her showing a little initiative.
Teaching - seminars, they are **** scared of them --- why?

t's ended up that she quit & starts work with meadow homecare services on the 1st August and [edit] School have lost what is probably the best they will ever get.

Sorry for hijacking your thread with a (slightly) drunk rant Red, but I think you could fuse this in with your own (they know nothing)theme.

Hey man nothing wrong with a drunkun rant

Hope you misses does well in her new job, wish her my luck.

The important thing to remember is as you say it was just a couple of 'numpties' - not all of them, that she didnt get through to. Perhaps their vocation lies elsewhere. It sounds like she's done a good job getting through to the rest of them.

I think its funny... those that dont understand what they are talking about usually don't last to long. There will always be people ready to slag off this industry and I say let them rant away. You cant argue with stats can you? Also you can't hunt down every critic, life is way to short.

Just every one do what you do and let the public results speak for themselves.
If people coming into this industry do their homework properly then they will see a different picture, me thinks

There's nothing wrong with the old avatar. Quite liked it. That's why I embraced the Arfur School of Marketing - The Daley Deals.

BTW I've got a few domains still for sale - one careful lady owner, low mileage.

And yes I ain't forgotten the kindness shown when I was feeling down.
