  Blog commenting

Commenting in blogs isn't something I've done a lot of, but is something I think I ought to look at as I start to improve the SEO of my sites.

I don't mean spamming - I'm meaning writing some useful posts on relevant blogs with a link back to my site.

Anyway, my main question is how do you go about finding relevant blogs to add comments to? Are there any sites/tools that can help?

I had a list of sites where you could post your articles. I'll get back to you if I find it in my list

  Re: Blog commenting

If anyone adds a comment on one of my blogs that includes an url to their site I delete as spam.

People are employed just to spam websites to try and link build - annoys the hell out of me.

  Re: Blog commenting

try looking for 'do follow' blogs as well, these are the ones where your link will actually help, as far as i understand, usually its better email the owner and see if there is an opportunity there, as aaclapham says, link backs from comments can be a bit spammy.

Isn't that a bit short sighted? If the commentator adds useful information to your post and genuinely has a reason to post a link then what's the problem. I often do it if it's relevant to the post and either disagrees or gives further information on the subject. I'm happy for people to add links to the comments on my blogs (including gaming ones) as long as there's a genuine reason. Yeah if it looks spammy it's gone, but if it's genuine I'm happy to leave it.

Yes, I know - but I was talking about non-spammy comments. Ok - anything with a link back to your site could be considered spam, but there's a difference between somebody posting a 'Click here to buy xxxx' as a comment, and a post that's on topic, useful and just contains a link back with the posters name.

You could call half the posts on A4U spam, as many contain links back to their sites in their sigs, but nobody does if they're useful members contributing.

I appreciate that if you run a blog that you're going to get oodles of outright spam posts that will be the cause of a lot of annoyance, but deleting them is good and ensures that people do have to leave useful posts if they want them to be listed.

I'm sure that lots of people here do post blog comments to help with backlinks and SEO, so just want to know if there are any suggestions of ways to find relevant blogs to comment in where you can post useful comments on topics that you know a lot about, as they're relevant to your site.

Try setting up a Google Alert, just for blogs, looking for phrases that you know would be used in relevant blogs. Make them quite specific though, otherwise you're going to end up with a really long alert list!

I agree if it is a useful link to a web site I will leave it, however 90% of them are like the example below:
