Re: Are you a Kitbag affiliate - if so read this
We would advise against this kind of leakage, and it normally can be quite easily removed as several of you have mentioned, but as John says there are only a couple of days left for this promotion so perhaps not in this case. It is something that of course all merchants should bear in mind in the future.
As for paying on all network sales regardless of last referrer, this is something that I'm sure will get a lot of interest from affiliates and once we've spoken with John directly we'll advise.
Thanks,
Mary

Hi all,
I just wanted to address a few points which have been raised.
We do not condone any type of leakage and will always advise merchants against this. Although we were aware that Kitbag were acting as a sponsor of the footy-boots awards we were not aware that a banner would be placed on the Kitbag site. We are now looking to ensure that the banner is not displayed when users click through from any affiliate links.
Further to this, Kitbag have always been really proactive and I know that John is always keen to talk directly to affiliates and help with any promotions as much as possible. Kitbag are always open to ideas on an individual basis and will look to help you with promotions. However we would always advise against promotions that adversely affects other affiliates.
Currently Kitbag operate on three networks and are not de-duping their activity against each one. This is being discussed at the moment and if any change is implemented we will update everyone.
If you wanted to get in touch to discuss any of the above further do feel free to give me a call or email.
Thanks,

Thanks to everybody involved in this great post .... it's been good to hear views (both sides) and was certainly good to open dialogue about this (and the other spin offs / digressions resulting from it)!

You'll be pleased to note that we've managed to make a change on the site such that it now programatically does not show the top banner flash Footy Boots ad for Affiliate Window affiliates linking in. This is since, as previously discussed, Affiliate Window affiliates may have a concern that the Footy Boots awards link may hijack some sales. Other network sales are not affected as these will pay anyway.
Now then .... not being one to pass up on any opportunity to promote the Kitbag program (or new ranges etc) ...... here I digress again ..... :
We've launched the fantastic new footwear "Summer Sale" section this morning on Kitbag.com. There's plenty to go at, including footwear, trainers, football boots and astros. The sale will run until stocks are depleted, but with such a big range available this is expected to run for several weeks, most probably longer.
We have a selection of generic sale banners available (see here for example), but specific banners for this sale are on the way within the next day or so (I promise!) See this blog post for latest banners in a short while.
Today we've also put live the new Liverpool FC 3rd kit (see Kitbag blog post here for more info). The Liverpool FC 3rd kit page on Kitbag is here. Some banners below:Last edited by johnlfitz; 24-07-08 at 05:41 PM. Reason: typo - changed "chance" to "change"

sorry to keep harping on about leakage, but are affiliates getting a cut of Kitbag's deal with Sky? This banner is showing on the Kitbag site:

Can we have this hidden via affilate links too, I am seeing it on AF, but I assume it displays on TD, AW too. Also if the phone number could go as well. I have asked for this before and I thought it was working, sure AF sorted something in the past. Could be a bad link set up by me, so let me know. (see old post from 2004)

Hi Ian,
Since this Sky banner is tracked via Awin .... it would only possibly be of concern for Affiliate Window affiliates (as discussed similarly with the Footy-Boots.com scenario).
The same code is in place that covered the main topic of this post (the one earlier on this post about the Footy-Boots.com awards vote banner). So this should cover it - if it's not then can you show me an example and I'll get it looked at straight away.
For TradeDoubler and Affiliate Future affiliates, I can see this possibly having a slight improvement if anything on their conversion rates because, as we stand, these networks sales aren't deduped against each other and so anyone signing up will then be emailed a unique £50 Kitbag voucher and would return to spend it - also at that time converting their previous click and therefore commissions accrue.
Also, wouldn't be showing for your football-shirts.co.uk links (or any other whitelabelled Kitbag affiliate) as the banner overrides anything there anyway.
Cheers

Sorry Ian - just realised that I didn't comment on the point you made about stripping off the Kitbag phone number for affiliate links ....
I believe portal=affut covered this ..... but then since you're now linking to your whitelabelled store using the portal=footballshirtscouk I think we've probably lost that.
Incidentally, we're looking into putting click appends on all 3 networks so that we can identify sales with a local cookie to sort out the potential duplicate commissions issue previously talked. This will take the form of:
- network=AW for Affiliate Window
- network=AF for Affiliate Future
- network=TD for Tradedoubler
.... and will be automatically appended on all the landing urls from the networks. Can't see any reason why we couldn't use this to trigger the removal of the phone number. I'll ask our technical chaps to look at adding the code for this.
Cheers

thanks John, the phone number doesn't show on my white label version, which is fine for me. But I think the portal=affut doesn't work anymore to hide it which is a problem obviously for any affiliates not on whitelabel, so fixing it would be great :tup
