the fact is , a lot of people dont like click to reveal and other things (retailers, affiliates and end user)that some of the bigger discount sites do , and other affiliates have now created code sites that to some are more user friendly and have better function, i think there are a lot better functioning code sites that have been created and these will see more use in the future as the bigger sites just dont seem to be adding new functions or moving forward.

Totally agree. I'm moving my discount code site to a more content based offering (I'll keep the discount codes on a separate page).

The 'click to reveal' thing has been debated countless times to the point that some of the account managers joined in the threads. Unfortunately, nothing has been done to resolve this issue and probably never will as long as merchants are making money from the practice.

I find it ironic that the author of this thread has an Exclusive code of mine on his whiter than white code site

Since the early days of codes in the UK CantBarsed has always shown code as totally normal content and continues to do so. It still ranks on the front page of google (on a good day) for some code terms.

DiscountCodes.tv, our code site (with added content ), which we bought in response to other code sites appearing, currently ranks well on google for some code keyword terms and uses two different display methods depending on merchant T&Cs - which we always adhere to.

The first method shows the code/s and opens the site IF there are codes/offers available, if no codes/offers are available there is no link to click.

The second method also only shows the link of there is something to see and shows the codes/offers in an overlay window which lets the user decide whether to visit the site or not.

We recently switched all CJ merchants to the second method and interestingly stats and sales remain at similar levels.

Lets be honest and open the one that everyone hates is MyVoucherCodes......lots of great seo, but lots of chances to cookie stuff, that is done at every opportunity.

Search for carrentals.co.uk discount codes, see what ranks. Well blow me we have never in 5 years offered a discount code. We have not had an affiliate offering for almost 2 years. So why was that page ever created, if not to cookie stuff?

So when does a merchant or network just call the guys, you are misrepresenting what you are offering. We are soon launching an affiliate offering and myvouchercodes will not be allowed on any program.

Children's Rooms has taken that step and will remove any other vouchercode site which forces clicks to reveal our non-existent voucher code.

yep so do I - but I'm getting clever and when my new super duper Allkids site is ready I'll be able to easily slot in any CURRENT discount and special offers to all relevant deep links and just as quickly remove 'em when they've ended - jobs a good 'un.

It really annoys me when people tar all voucher code sites with the same brush.

My voucher sites don't force clicks whatsoever all codes are listed freely for all to see and use, i don't doubt that many of my vistors use 'my' codes and never click through to a merchant via my links. (Also if i don't have a code its clearly displayed.

As for the content argument i'm working on adding more unique content but its time consuming and will take time to update all listings.

I've looked at the OP's site and i can't see anything 'new' on their that is'nt being done across hundreds of voucher sites already, the content i certainly pretty thin....

Has anyone dissected how MVC has been so successful with respect to seo on Google? We may think his business model is rather suspect, but I think we can all learn from his seo expertise.

The more we know about the seo angle the harder it will be for these types of websites to prosper unless they give the consumer what they promise.

Just flicking through the 536 links to MVC. There do seem to be alot of links from the same websites, so deeplinking from possibly associated websites is clearly valuable.

The inbound link from the BBC is also good and has gravitas.

Anything else we should be noting?

For everyone who is interested in the whole Voucher Code space, I would suggest that you make it a priority to head to Hero's session at the Expo.

You have some very clued up speakers and an opportunity to ask questions. Should be a lively discussion...
