That argument does not hold water.
If a 'content' site pulls the user from the SERPs and pre-sells the product, displays the current voucher codes and then sends the punter to the merchant the same thing will still happen - they get to check-out and rather than entering the code they already have and continue to make purchase, they will go google 'merchant discount code' to see if there is anything better...
And becuase most of the voucher sites that appear for that merchant are 'click to reveal' they won't know if there is or isn't a 'better' code until AFTER the cookie is dropped.
So, even if content sites 'can be arsed' to do the work, it wont change anything in the vast majority of cases.

Not really. Voucher sites cover hundred's of niches and add every single voucher they get, and some add more. Content sites generally cover one niche so would not have a quarter of the vouchers to put on.
hmm, I suppose if you had hundreds content sites then yes it would take you a fair amount of time, but then so would the contentOf course you can include the vouchers as part of your content updates by writing about the product or whatever.
With my content sites it takes me a few minutes a week to add vouchers and discounts, as opposed to my freebie site that takes several hours.
Looking forward to my second pint from Doug. If the sales pitch works then my plan is to utilise Doug's system so that it updates my code site for me. Then with the profits get Kieron's content team to write some other content that doesn't convert nearly as well but keeps other affiliates at bay, whilst I carry on with my full time job or sit in the pub or something![]()
To avoid the voucher code argument then there is still some scope to build content sites that focus on Merchants that do not do voucher codes.
Why don't the networks highlight these merchants openly so that some of us can avoid the voucher leeches more easily?
Why don't/won't merchants remove the discount box?
In fact, does anyone know of a merchant that does do this?
What about voucher code sites that brand bid, and state 'exclusive discounts' in their ads, then when go to their site there is no voucher, no exclusive discount, but lists the cheapest on the net, user clicks through for code and is taken direct to merchant page.
From the buyers point of view they may be thinking they are getting an exclusive discount by clicking through this particular ad, but in fact the price is the same for everyone.
I think I am losing £££s due to this type of competition.
Is it misleading the consumer? Yes (but they still get what they are looking for).
Is it unfair competition? I am not sure. But the only way for me to compete with this practice is to do it myself and to do it better, but I really don't want to go down the road of misleading people.
I am sorry if I have repeated anything already covered in this thread, I did read through a couple of pages of it the other day, but today I just needed to vent.
Merchants themselves must be affected by this practice as well if they are brand bidding too, I have seen them showing up in the same results.
Befuddled
Don't think you are the only one thinking that![]()
