    My Weekend.....

Saturday 8:00 - Wrote a small basic website, 7 pages in total in pure html with a few piccies. No css, java or anything. Took 2 hours to create something nice looking with a good layout and easy to use menu.

Saturday 10:00 - Bought a nice domain to stick the site on, while waiting for login i created html & xml sitemap plus a nice "our friends" directory section for link swaping.

Saturday 14:00 - Email arrived with login to new domain and hosting. Uploaded site and new sitemaps

Saturday 14:30 - Started a new webmater tools account with Google and added my new sitemap.

Sunday 9:00 - Started linking the new website up. Decided not to be too greedy and went for 25 inbounds all from other websites linked in theme to my new one. Started updating a "Our Friends" page with the reciprocal links that I had created at the design phase on Saturday.

Sunday 18:00 - Had a drink (Vodka & Coke) a few last minute checks (broken links, things not lookign right in Safari, Firebox etc etc) and had another Vodka & Coke.

Monday 10:00 - Just checked Google and my site is now fully listed and im ranked 7-8 on the two keywords I wanted. Iv made 12 quid today so far. Enough to pay for registering the domain and hosting with 2 pounds profit.

    -----

I started a site in a similar way a few months ago and its stuck around the top ten ranked 3-5 on that one and after a few weeks i started popping up for other keywords on a similar theme. Im really shocked though just how bloody quick Google picked this one up! Their robots must be on pills or something ha ha!

Anyone else has a site picked up mega quick and basically gone from nothing to top 10 listing in a day?

    Well Done Mate,

I think the quickest I have managed was about three days but it seems to be taking longer and longer for my sites to get indexed at the moment, usually about five days to a week. Just got to stick with it though I suppose.

    Cheers.

    Nice going!

I got spidered (too) quickly a couple of months back. I submitted the site just before it was finished, to try and speed things up, it got spidered almost immediately and before I had completed it - must have got marked down as it's never ranked properly since.

As an aside... do you always create a new Google webmaster account for each new site? Is there any evidence that multiple sites in a single account causes problems?

I have all my sites in one account and don't have any problems (and don't see why you would have). If I had a new account for every site it would be an absolute nightmare to keep logging in and out to check each one.

I create new accounts because im always worried that if one of my sites get done for spam or something then they might reflect that through every account in the same webmaster tools login.

Course im probably worried over nothing! Iv only ever been banned once and that was my first site when trying out different things which i now know are proper naughty!

Anyway il give an update soon, see hoe the site is getting on

Well done findlite, nice to wrap it all up in one weekend hey!

The fastest index I've had was minutes, with updates on the site still indexing within 20 seconds

Nice one - it's always good to hear of quick success :-)

Is this for a particularly small niche? I'm only asking as I spent the weekend on a new site, but haven't submitted it to Google yet.

Here's hoping for something similar ...

Thats a great effort. My issue is getting listed in the first place. It always takes me ages. One site I have has 16 backlinks and these are from decent (regluarly spidered and high PR sites) and after 8 days its still not been indexed. Very frustrating as its sitting there waiting for them. I uploaded my sitemap to google as well.

Anyway, good to hear others are having slightly more luck. :tup

Register the site with Google Webmaster Tools and you'll get indexed almost immediately. That's the secret here

Yep getting ur arse on webmaster tools is the key. Also found that keeping an account with splut.com and freeindex.co.uk is good as they have "new sites" sections which are spidered daily by Google. If your link is there you can bet ur arse Google know about it :tup

Well done mate, must be a nice feeling for you to see some rewards already and is a great example to many others to just get on and make something when starting out that isn't too difficult!

I'm more amazed at you getting yourself 25 link exchanges in the space of a day! That is some going for anybody to be honest! It might of been an idea to spread those link exchanges out over the coming months instead of one quick job lot though!

Good luck with the site, hope it goes well for you! :tup

    Cheers

Google is a very fast these days... and places much more emphasis on onpage optimisation IMO, hence 25 links is just as good as 250 links...
