A Clutch of domain?.....

Is there a technical term for a company that uses a handfull of related domains brought together to look like one website but each one is placed to rank well for a difficult keyword?

Like a clutch of domains?...... well maybe!

something like:

the-little-red-carpark-aberdeen-airport.co.uk - Two guesses what keyword thats ranking well for!

then add others....

the-grange-hotel-aberdeen.co.uk - Airport hotel located near Aberdeen airport

the-servisair-lounge-aberdeen-airport.co.uk - A lounge at Aberdeen airport

Reason I ask is iv found small neat little sites seem to rank higher in Google than large sprawling domains trying to do everything. So by spliting products into domains I can still segregate things yet have links in the navigation and style them all the same to give the feel of a larger website.......

I hope you guys understand what im on about!

Is there a technicall way to describe this style of website layout? I wouldnt mind doing a little research about it.

Im not sure if its the technical term (or even if there is one), but i`ve frequently seen it referred to as a "cluster" of sites.

And yes, they do do well in Google.

Affi actually wrote a very good guide on this which he made available, i`m sure if you contact him he'll be happy to send you a copy.
