    Ok problem

Computer 1 - Installed dreamweaver, works fine - uploading website and viewing live website when typing Website.co.uk - Home

Computer 2 - same as above and all fine

Computer 3 - Installed dreamweaver, works fine - uploading website, however when you go to the live website, it shows a blank page ? literally nothing !

    Computer 4- Same as computer 3 !

Has anyone experienced this before, as it is driving me crazy, I am trying to sort my brothers laptop/pc out for him, and his computers are computer 3 and computer 4 !

Please please can someone help me, as this is driving me up the wall !

    Thanks

Unless I have missed something - what has that to do with Dreamweaver?

Sounds like you have uploaded the website, and the problem is viewing that, on a live URL, via a browser?

If that is the case, what anti virus / firewall is installed on #3 and #4?

I know that Kaspersky, by default, stops lots of websites loading. Norton has always been a PITA as well.

    Thanks for the reply.

Dreamweaver is the software I am using as FTP.

When I log onto the website via FTP on computer 1 or 2 (which has been uploaded by computer 3 or 4) there is no website on the actual server - it has literally uploaded a blank file ??

In answer to your question, it does not appear to be a virus protection software issue as it isn't when "viewed" it just physically is not uploading to the server for some reason. I thought it may have been dreamweaver was not working properly etc, but it has been tried on 2 different computers with the same results.

I am far from a novice and know how this works etc, this is doing my head in now ! grrrr

It sounds like you are uploading to the root folder from the computers which are showing the site, but to a user folder on the ones which are giving the fault, assuming you are speaking about uploading different sites on the different machines.

The root folder is usually something like /public_html/
You may be uploaading to /user/public_html/
then trying to view the site on www.domains.com, when the site you have uploaded is at something like www.domains.com/user/

    Hope that helps

    Hi Bruce

Thanks for your reply, it is appreciated.

No it still isn't the problem I am doing the EXACT same site on each pc lol ie same website on 4 different PC's but getting the problem with only 2 of them

It is sooooo frustrating me !

It is quite hard to explain in writing

Ok computer 1 uploads website 1 = all works fine
Computer 3 uses the same ftp details for the same website, then reuploads website 1 (with a slight change to make sure it has worked) but when it has uploaded, it is showing a blank page on Website.co.uk - Home

    damn ! lol

    If PC1 and PC2 are yours -
PC2 and PC3 are your brothers?

And, it's both your brothers PC's which have the problem, then could it be a licensing issue? I.E. You are using a copy of Dreamweaver with one licence on 2 PC's

A long shot, but that's what first sprung to mind?

Why not send a PM to TBP. He is the Dreamweaver expert?

It must be something to do with the site settings in DW

Try deleting the site in DW on the computer which is giving the problem, then making a new site, which should use the ftp, etc defaults, which are usually good.

Depending on the firewall, etc on the various machines, it may be worth trying the various options, passive, firewall, etc, in DW FTP, one of them may work on that machine.

You haven't accidentally used the same DW licence for all four machines, have you, Adobe only allow two installs! Maybe they have it bombed!

Are both pairs of computers using either binary OR ascii transfer mode?

If the ones that are not working are using binary, change to ascii.

You haven't got an old HOSTS file entry on your PC from when you first set the site up have you?
If you have, that could explain why other PCs aren't arriving at the same location.

In the FTP settings option are you using ftp.website.co.uk. If so have you tried using the IP address in this field instead?

I would think it was one of two things:

    1) The root directory is set incorrectly in the site definition, so files are being uploaded outside of the web directory. However, that theoretically you should be able to see the existing files.

    2) Is the site PHP? Some hosts set error messages not to show, which means that if there is an error on the page, all you see is a blank page and nothing else.

So that all of the Dreamweavers have the same settings, export the site definition from the working Dreamweaver, and then import into the other Dreamweavers.

99.9% of the time errors like this come from an incorrect setting in the Site Definition.

I'd second that. I couldn't figure out why a recent site of mine was coming up blank until I took a close look and spotted I was uploading to /pubic_html/ instead of /public_html/ - just shows where my mind is...
