Depending how much you're over the 35 character limit, you could save yourself 4 characters by dropping off the 'www.' at the beginning, which is allowed in Adwords at least.

Other than that, I'm not sure what you can do beyond buying a new domain.

You don't have to use the full url - just an accurate representation of it.

w-w-w.blue-widgets.co.uk/pink-green-blue-orange-purple-green.3333333333.html

can be displayed as:

Blue-Widgets.co.uk/PINK

Could you not set up a 301 Redirect in your .htaccess file with a shorter domain?

I think you are stumped then? Maybe a new URL is the only answer?

I would definitely not recommend simply copying the content wholesale on to a new domain - you may well find one (or both) sites being penalised for having duplicate content.

A better approach would be to set up a new domain specifically for your PPC campaign I would guess, although you could be looking at a lot of work (depending on how much content you'll be wanting to add)

I wouldn't see a problem with sticking to the same layout - I often use a standard template across a number of sites and have never seen any evidence of being penalised.

So yes, I would think that the same layout with original content should work fine
