Only had a couple of responses so far (thanks Lee from trade doubler, Naomi firebox and Jess from DGM for getting in touch) hoping to get lots more feedback from you guys in the merchant world.

The sooner I get some research done the sooner I can stop pi22ing everyone else off!

    Hello Mr Hos,

May I apologise on behalf of all AM's out here. It's rare that you get an affiliate asking exactly what we want, so we should do the decent thing and reply.

From my perspective I spose I want an ideal affiliate to drive loads of converting traffic to our site which drives loads of sales. Problem is that most other merchants want the same thing.

So, looking at it in more detail, I want somewhere (aside from driving sales) where I can showcase my latest products/offering to a customer demographic that is most relevant to the said product/offering. If I could manage this content all the better...

Is that the sort of thing you're looking for?

    Cheers,

    Zak.

    Hi Zak,

Its great to get some sort of feedback so thanks for that - it all helps.:tup

i think he was after ideas on what to develop the domain into
mega.co.uk is quite a tricky one lol
While I may have initially asked for ideas on what mega.co.uk could be to make sure I hadnt missed a trick (a4u members come up with some outside the box belters) I always had an offers site in mind.

What i'm looking for now is angles of promotion that merchants prefer so that I can use them on my site. If any merchants have any unique ideas or angles or there are any new buzz terms that may be about (like prizes, cashback, voucher codes etc..were) I want to hear about them.

I'd like to avoid the cookie stuffing route that some people prefer as that seems to anger merchants and annoying the people I'll need to work closely with is something I want to avoid.

I have already paid close to £6000 for what I believe is one of the most easily brandable domain names in the UK - now i'm going to spend a lot of money and time developing it to sell merchants products.

If anyone has a silver bullet idea they want to give away that would be great (i'm all for an easy life - lol) but i'd also be dead happy with some more ideas on selling your products!

    Dont be shy..

fwiw mega seems to be a two - edged sword - easy to brand as whatever you want because its not saying anything specific, but on the other hand not easily branded because its not saying anything specific. eg. compared to vouchercodes.co.uk.

imo you need an angle of some sort. mega just means mega, which presumably is just large or great or.... but what is it referring to... if you get my drift.

Megacodes.co.uk has already been taken, but perhaps you could make them an offer. That says exactly what its doing, except that it ain't doing much atm - looks like an aff that has given up.

I couldnt agree with you more, mega.co.uk is possibly the best and the worst domain ever - but I knew that when I bought it! lol

In a months time I bet you'll struggle to remember exactly which voucher code site you used as your example above but I'm pretty sure you'll still remember the name of my site.

If I manage to get people to the site and then give them a good experience they'll remember the name and come back - thats what I hope anyway. I know its not going to be easy but it'll be fun building it!

Its either the best or worst £6k I ever spent!:tup

Ahhh. That serves me right for posting something at the end of the day when my brians fried then!

Yeah - I agree with this and it could be the best/worst scenario. Take our sector for example. Firebox - who's business model I really like - have a really specific segment so I would assume it easier for them to determine a marketing message, select products, determine where they should market themselves, who to partner with etc.

With Prezzybox it's more difficult as we sell across a broader segment and target pretty much everyone... You could say we're a jack of all trades which has it's own merits (wider audience, more potential sales avenues etc) but it also makes it more difficult to determine a marketing plan, identify target markets etc.

So (in a very long winded way) what I'm trying to say is that there are pro's and con's to being niche/specific in what you do (ie. making mega.co.uk into a voucher site) and their are pro's and cons into making mega.co.uk into an all singing, all dancing voucher comparison cash back site!!

I hope that's not confused the issue even more! (I really need to post in the middle of the day - not early morning/late night!).

Not at all - it makes perfect sense,

So (in a very long winded way) what I'm trying to say is that there are pro's and con's to being niche/specific in what you do (ie. making mega.co.uk into a voucher site) and their are pro's and cons into making mega.co.uk into an all singing, all dancing voucher comparison cash back site!!
I'd love to make mega a massive all singing all dancing site but I'd spend twice as long on development and could still end up with everything being rubbish! If I do one thing really well people will want to come back and will know exactly how to find us:tup

Lets say we're doing vouchers/offers and discounts.

My big question is just how far are merchants willing to go to help me get my visitors buying?

Prizes, best buys, exclusive codes, free products for me/my visitors to review, offer of the day..are some that I could work with but they arent really unique.

There must be other ideas (i'm not after secrets) that merchants/networks use frequently to get people interested and its those golden nugs i'm looking for..
