    Hi guys

I am going to take the plunge and get my affiliate marketing career going. Can you recommend a cheap (cheap but decent) website builder please? I have not huge technical experience. I have seen something on amazon uk called "Mr Site" - which looks ok. Are there good free programmes out there?

    Thankyou.

I'd use wordpress for a first site.

    Costs
    Wordpress - FREE
Themes - FREE (1000's to choose from)

You can customise the themes by simply changing the header image, which you can find a good designer to do for less then $30.

Also, wordpress is seo friendly in code, rather then most "site builders", and it's very easy to use.

Although for html based sites i use dreamweaver, which is very good, but cost me around £450!

    Hope that helps,
    Haynesey

    There used to be NVU:

    NVU

    but that's now discontinued.

Microsoft Visual Web Developer is also free and is ok but maybe not ideal for a newbie.

Neither of these are as good as Dreamweaver which I would recommend once you can afford it.

I'd second Dreamweaver...bit pricey tho so would recommend only if you are serious about design/development of sites.

EDIT: Sorry, didn't see your 'cheap' spec in original post so you probably wouldn't go this route.

Think dreamweaver's worth the money if you can spare it at all and photoshop/illustrator for your graphics.

you could also brush up on code/techie skills at lynda.com - so many hours of tutorial videos there.

Dreamweaver/Fireworks 8 combo for both web design & graphics design. I edit my PHP scripts in HTML Kit (its free), however, DW & FW are a bit on the expensive side.

I think that NVU team released another one that has a good backing called KompoZer:

    KompoZer - Easy web authoring

I'd recommend Visual Studio Express - Not only is it free, but has a great CSS editor/Manager.

You can make simple html sites with it, or even trial out some server side coding with asp.net.

    Hi

You may want to see an example of wordpress - WiseMarketing a systematic communication strategy

It is simple and there is no coding at all. You can creat tags in there and basically link with other blogs and websites for you SEO; i.e. trackback links. As haynesey said wordpress is SEO friendly.

    Good luck

Wordpress is what you'll want to use, once you get to grips with it you won't look elsewhere.

Simple, Complex, 1 page, 10,000 pages, wordpress is capabale.

It certainly is, the new number10.gov.uk runs on Wordpress and we're using it for more and more client sites in my web dev business.

    Thanks guys.

    I'll use wordpress.

Is it easier to install if I use a hosting site that already has it? and does it have a daily visitor stats counter too which will tell me how many hits i get a day - sorry if these questions sound trivial.
