Looks very fair to me and as you say majority of it is common sense.
Can you introduce a new area though for all the MLMers to place their spam - I sometimes need a good laugh.![]()
I felt it was necessary to lay down some general rules when using the forum.
Most of it I'm sure you will agree is common sense.
www.affiliates4u.co.uk/forum-rules.htm
<strong>Its basically:</strong>
- Do not create aliases or misrepresent your own identity.
- Do not reveal other members URL's without permission
- Do not reveal others identities without permission.
- Do not SPAM or write messages with the sole intention to drive traffic to your site or affiliate program.
- Restrictions on affiliate links for <em>new</em> members.
- Use signatures if you like, but keep them to three lines max and don't include large images.
- Do not post any unauthorized advertising.
- Post new affiliate programs in the 'New Affiliate Programs' Forum only.
Hope this seems fair to people.
Please also take note of the general terms and conditions of using this forum.
Thanks,
Matthew.

Yes, this sounds very fair.
Observing these guidelines will make sure that this
affiliate forum continues to be a great (and friendly)
learning resource.

Hi Matt,
I just read over the rules .... "New Forum Rules - Please Read" ..and think I may have posted a note that is too much of an advert. Sorry about that. It was regarding a posting about Online-Affiliates. Have a look and let me know if I was out of order.
Thanks
Tyson
Hi Tyson, and welcome to the board.
I'm not Matt, not even a moderator, but i've looked at your post and i don't see you have a problem. You were invited by a member to make that post, you posted in the correct thread, and your post wasn't all spammy. I don't think yours is the sort of post Matt is trying to put a stop to.
ok, i'm confused :|
rule one says
- Do not create aliases or misrepresent your own identity.
rules two and three say....
- Do not reveal other members URL's without permission
- Do not reveal others identities without permission
if people are following rule 1 then why would they not want their identities revealed and why should we not be able to see what the url of their site is ?
I've noticed a lot of people don't want others to know their real names or which sites they run. Why the secrecy ?, what have these people got to hide ?
<blockquote><strong><em>Quote:</em></strong><hr>- Do not create aliases or misrepresent your own identity.[/quote]
I think you misunderstand what Matt means by this. he's not saying everyone has to join using their web site name. Carl is as good as Freebie, or Freebieholics etc. What he's saying is that it would be wrong for me to now re-register as a new name so people wouldn't recognise me, and to then use that to my own advantage. This happens often, those posts by 'new' members you see are not always new members.
Essentially, this rule says to me
1. Do not be sneaky
2. Do not lie.
If i'm wrong i'm sure the point will be clarified.
Tyson > Your post is fine, we are not super strict we just want to keep the dummies out.
TVI>
- Do not create aliases or misrepresent your own identity.
This is for the folk that come on and go.. hey check out this great program, then a little while later another affiliate comes on and says yes it's great. But sadly it's the exact same person, we are all adults here just tell us what you have to offer and we will make our mind up, you don't need to do trick posts to get noticed around here.
- Do not reveal other members URL's without permission
Many members don't want people to know what site they run, as it stands I think I pretty much know many of the sites most people have however I fully respect there wishes and would never share this with anyone else and it's expect you follow this also.. if they want to let people know it's up to them.
- Do not reveal others identities without permission
If your posting replies and tips as "theaffiliate" and you don't want others to know your real name then that's fine also. It's a Privacy thing.. on the board I will not call some one by the first name unless I know they are cool about it, most of us that sit up late at night in the chartroom are ok about this, but understandable some members like to keep personal life separate from there affiliate one.
Question:
"I've noticed a lot of people don't want others to know their real names or which sites they run. Why the secrecy ?, what have these people got to hide ? "
The short answer TVI is this is a small industry and people also have other jobs and day jobs.
I'll think you will find that some members do not diclose information, because they do not want the competition ripping of ideas, content tricks etc. It has happened to a few members on this board and therefore they now keep their sites close to their chest.
I.e a member of the board spends 3/4 years learning web seo affiliate marketing etc etc and then incorporates it all into a site that works well and earns money. Then some scumbag comes onto the board visits his/her site and copies it...
Cheers

hhmm very fair rules,
with regard to sites, I have no problem with people not disclosing their site urls or even what the main content ( and target audience) of their site is, I would rather someone posted pertinent information but didn't mention their urls and audience than they not posted at all.
If I spend 6 months researching and desgining, coding, linking a site about gardening tools for left handed dwarves with a squint, I would be quite happy to say....I have the gadget shop on and they convert to 45p per click...and at the same time a network has messed me about and has wasted a month of my time etc....
but I would not divulge the site....why should I work so hard for someone to nick it... stands to reason, most of you guys on here are established and I don't believe that the majority of you long term guys do that, I think you are too busy doing your own thing but the newbies are not so busy they can spend a week ripping your site apart and building theirs from it.
agree with a MLM / link forum though....at least people have NO excuse then for posting links with aff codes... :O!!
And it's quite funny to see some of the links..lol
Keep spreading the Joy![]()
Sorry if I confused anyone here. I think Supercod summed the points up nicely though - thanks for that.
Tyson - Yes your post is fine, welcome to the board![]()
Points 2/3 are just about the right to ones privacy. if an affiliate chooses not to declare their site/identity then that is their right - it should'nt be disclosed by others privaleged enough to know.
Similarly for newbies, keeping your site quiet from the big experienced boys while you're developing it might be a good idea. I might be speaking from experience, as someone very experienced set up a site with the same idea as my as yet undeveloped and admittedly pretty crappy one, starting one month after I first posted here. Hmmm.... Cheeky man! (Possibly).
Nice to see what the site would have been like if I'd have followed it through properly as they've made a damn good job of it.
Still it's a dog eat dog world out there and in some ways if you're wanting to keep your site quiet from the world you're failing as you should want everyone to see it!
Stu
I just like the fact that no-one here is saying "look at me and my fabulous wealth". Judging by the stuff I've read in my limited time here thus far, there are some seasoned professionals airing honest enough opinions, which is really refreshing.
The fact that people don't really want to talk about their sites is surely a bonus, as it only detracts from the message.
I don't even think it's about anyone nicking your ideas particularly... If you can do them better than me, well done. I just like the notion of chatting with a peer group about topics that interest me, without the clutter of who's best, blah, blah, blah...
