From Hitwise Monthly Email:
With the proclamation of July 24 as '24x7' Shopping Day, online retailers participating in the promotion enjoyed increased traffic and longer visits from consumers keen to snaffle a bargain. Retailers benefiting from the event included GAME (shop.game.net), an online computer and console game stockist, which saw a 300% increase in market share on the 24th to increase its place in the Shopping & Classifieds category by 48 positions. Also performing well were Marks and Spencer Online (www.marksandspencer.com) and Empire Direct (www.empiredirect.co.uk), with rankings of #15 (up 20) and #21 (up 2respectively.
Overall, traffic to the shopping category increased by 4% on the day, with retail sites taking 8.4% of all Internet traffic. The category has enjoyed a marked increase since July 2002, when its market share was just 4.7%.
