Thread: Barclay card merchant services!

This is what I sent them:

I am writing to tell you how shocked I was to see an advert appear on my merchant payment page today.

This is absolutely ridiculous you are trying to make money from my customers and I pay you for the privilege of using your service!!!!!!!!

Not only does this spoil the look of my online store as I have absolutely no adverts on my web site at all. It also annoys my affiliate partners who appreciate that this is framedshares policy. You will affect the number of affiliates that choose to promote my site and you will potentially make me lose some of my current affiliates.

I pay for traffic through search engine optimisation paid for click listings advertising etc.. etc... and I do this to generate more customers for my store and I believe it is totally unethical to steal my customers with your ads.

Also a customer can follow one of your ads and not finish buying my product so not only are you stealing my customers you are costing me sales too. I have highly optimised and fast pages your ads are just that little bit more that a customer has to download and this makes the page just that bit slower to load which in turn spoils the customers experience.

You can see from my account that I have a very high turnover through your systems which is growing considerably month on month with an expected very high volume over the Christmas period you already make a very good and large amount of money from me!!!!

This is entirely unacceptable to me and if these adverts do not stop appearing in my store I will be forced to stop using your service.

I have already started to investigate other alternatives and there are plenty of them.

I am totally annoyed and disappointed in a service that up and till now I have been recommending highly!!!!

Please tell me if you are able to stop these ads appearing in my store and if so when otherwise we will have to part company.

A very unhappy and annoyed customer,

    Sam

    Your Must be Joking!

I can't believe that Barclays would make a decision like that! What on earth were they thinking? I agree that it is completely unethical and OUT OF LINE! I use Barclays Merchant Services but not EPDQ (which sends the customer to a page managed by Barclays for the payment transaction). And due to your comments, I'm really gald we went another route. We opted to go with our own Payment Processing Gateway, www.protx.com, and use Barclays only as the holder of our Merchant Services account. This method is working well for us.

i have set up lots of online shops and had several bad experiences with BMS.

For our adult shop they wanted a £10,000 cash deposit incase of chargebacks and fraud. Since we started trading with worldpay the total ammount of chargebacks is.....

    drumroll........

    £11.99

We told them where to shove their merchant account

    Hi Natural Instinct,

How have you found WP's money holding onto policies?

At the risk of getting slightly off-topic, we use BMS for www.lovehoney.co.uk and it was no problem getting a merchant account -- there was never any mention of a £10,000 deposit in case of chargebacks.

We went with SecPay as our payment processor so the checkout could be completely integrated with the site, unlike EPDQ. We're investigating Protx too.

And as for them sticking an ad on your checkout - outrageous!

There are no charges to setup epdq as you integrate it yourself. Not very difficult to do.

We had no hassle getting it but we had been using PDQ for some time before so we had a track record.

It cost about £25 per month and there are ongoing transaction fees. Its worth giving them a ring once your turnover through them gets big as you can get better rates.

I will now be looking to do something with Protx. but will keep investingating.

Its amazing no matter how busy you think you are something else comes up!

Barclay card merchant services have started to put adverts on merchants payment pages.

This not only spoils the users experience of our stores but allows people to go to a new URL before compleating their payments. CRAZY
This means that the merhant will not get paid but also the affiliate will lose out!!!!!!!!!!

Just thought I would let you all know as together we may be able to stop this happening.

Here is the e-mail address I was given to send my comments to: info.epdq@barclaycard.co.uk

Please all send them your oppinons!!!

    NaturalInstinct,

WorldPay keep our money for 2 weeks now. Just ask them to reduce the time when you have a little track record with them. It's also worth asking them to reduce the rates. So far they have reduced them three times for us.

Since any Tom Dick or Harry can set up an online shop with them their initial charges are necessarily high to cover the risk. Show you are low risk and successful and they will accommodate you better.

I suppose this goes with all payment services.

Also note chargebacks can come up to 6 months after purchase so you may have more coming to you! However you rate so far is excellent.

Having said all that, we are now investigating cheaper alternatives to WorldPay because we have reached a level of business which makes us a more attractive proposition.

The one thing that annoys me about WorldPay are the mandatory charges they make for extra security checks (Called World Alert). These charges, whilst small per transaction, amount to much more than we have ever lost through fraudulent orders.

EDIT Sorry forgot the theme of the thread.

It is absolutely outrageous that Barclays put adverts on your site without permission. It would be enough for me to charge provider.

Mind you I always thought Barclays were totally behind the door as far as Internet payment services were concerned. EPDQ was a very expensive solution when we were looking.
