Hi and thanks for taking the time to look at this post.

This is probably a question with an obvious answer, but rather than ask a merchant directly or an affiliate network, i thought id ask here so all newbies can benefit from the replies/advice given.

    My Question..
I have 'experimented' with PPC to drive traffic to my own site which is straight forward enough, but my question is this - If i start to use PPC to drive traffic to an affiliate programme (which we'll call 'joe bloggs furniture'), If their affiliate programme says 'No PPC allowed' then obviously i can't promote by PPC direct to the merchant.

Now lets assume 'joe bloggs furniture' Does allow PPC and does not state restrictions - i assume this means i can use PPC to drive traffic to their site through my affiliate to my heart content?

Now assume that 'joe bloggs furniture' Does allow PPC but with restricted keywords - I understand the 'restricted keywords' means i cannot use these listed words, But does this mean that i can still use PPC if i DO NOT use the 'keyword' function when submitting my PPC ads?

I hope that makes sense to someone, Thanks in advance for any advice given.

If a merchant doesn't say that you cannot use PPC then I usually asume that you can. But they may have something in their T&Cs that's not in the generic information on the network info page so it's worth checking those too. There are some that say they have an open PPC policy which means you are allowed, but always be cautious of those that don't say anything as they may not have realised that they to need to tell you not too.

Generally when 'restricted keywords' is given as a status it comes with a list of the keywords. These are normally the name of the site, or similar terms and any product brand names that they don't want you to bid on. Some merchants are more specific than others so always check, but in my experience it's mainly to protect them from brand bidding.

Although I possibly shouldn't, I do tend to run PPC to merchants who don't appear to have a policy until they tell me not too.

    Hope that helps!

    Hi Helen,

Sorry i took so long to respond, but i'd like to thank you for the feedback you gave me. This has made the PPC guidelines a bit clearer.

Had a look at your site (mydesignerbaby), thought it looked very clean and easy navigation, maybe one day i'll be that good :-)

    Thanks again
    Russell
