Well usually there is a setup fee, this involves my initial research into keywords, competition, current site strength and also my proposals of what is needed. This initial seo review can cost anything from £100-£1000 depending on site.

After that rates are usually based per hour or per day charged monthly depending on how much time the client wants monthly.

I agree, I'd never pay for a review. I know which keywords I want to rank for and so no need to pay for it.

There will be a free initial review and in this will be what i feel i can achieve and what i feel is wrong with the site.

After something has been agreed then i will go much more in depth and this takes several hours sometimes longer. This is the reason for the setup fee which is commonplace from my experience in the SEO market. Of course all work is justified by the time that is spent.

So to clarify to avoid confusion
1- I would look at the site, give my thoughts on what i feel is wrong on page, also on the best way to fix these. I would look at the site's link profile and look at ways to bring in more links, this initial review is FREE
2, once we have agreed a fee and a plan of action then i will go into it much more detail.

Any questions please get in touch.

To be fair to the chap many people don't know what keywords they *should* be ranking for, they only know what they *think* they want to rank for.

Also it sounds like his "initial" review is actually a full site evaluation with recommendations. You can't do full reviews for free if you want to make any money.

I want to rank for the word poker, but don't want anyone telling the world how I did it:

B&Q, direct line and other buying links, tamar.com?

Be careful James, you better be cleaner than clean now or good at hiding stuff, as people will be after you.

Tamar have been paid alot of money by these clients and yet theyve gone againt all google ethics and guidlines.

What happens if google gives tham all a great big slap?
Can they have thier money back Tamar for your shoddy lazy seo practices? Nope dont think so

Tamar are well known for dodgy link buying, they grew fat on it and got themselves some juicy clients.. (as did many other agencies using the same trick), however they don't seem to have worked out any other decent methods.. I'd avoid them like a nasty dose of the clap.

Well said, long term link buying will not work, a client of ours has seen a competitors site disappear from google because of link buying, in a week our clients site traffic doubled.

I prefer to offer some sort of "bait" to bloggers etc.. to get links

give them a reason to link to you, offer them discount if you sell things, give them something to talk about, writing something amazing.

There are better ways to get links than to buy them

No dig James, just be careful

I doubt their is a company in any of the major finance areas who is not buying links. You can get the link love from blogs etc, but getting 100 good anchor text links is not as easy........clever thinking is better

    I hate/love this site:

    Insurance Blog Insiders View

As he keeps a running commentary of the tricks

But also if you out Tamar what is to stop them just adding your clients links to some dodgy networks.

Personally I think all seo is grey...as soon as you play with a page title you are manipulating google.

yeh i agree with a lot of what you say there

Though i can say i work with some big companys and we would never buy links for them.

Well if Tamar did try any underhand stuff like that then it would be a huge mistake, Google are prety clever and they know whats going on most of the time

    poker - Google Search

Except for Wiki and miniclip......who is not buying?

I personally think that link buying will grow and grow, agents and merchants know it works. And even the mighty G is not going to remove every major PLC from it's index for link buying. So many large merchants now have allocated link buying budgets of millions per annum.

If launching a new site in the poker arena how do you beat them?
