I have never talked to these merchants, but 2 of them have been very public about them thinking affiliates are the low life....coincidence?

How many merchants have pulled out of affiliate marketing because of them not understanding what is going on. This is my concern.
Prezziesplus is in the process of closing their network affiliate sceme, this ends on the 9th of February, after lots of requests we are now setting up a private affiliate scheme with NO voucher codes.
Merchants pull out of affiliate marketing because they start to understand what is going on, not because they don't.

Fully agree John, and this is my concern. There are affiliates who will drive you real additional business but it can be too hard to sort out the good from the bad and hence my concern is merchants just stop their affiliate business.

I want vc type sites to bring you incremental business and not you have to pay for business you would have already gotten. I do believe there is a place for vouchercodes if they are used selectively and not just on sites that can outrank you in google for your own name. As an example of one that we are working with is Freeads:

Freeads.net - Classified ads, place free ads

We are working to integrate voucher codes and offers into their classified listings, we and they believe this enhances their listings by giving the customer much more choice of what to buy, whilst hopefully also making revenue for the merchants involved....and us
