And here is the news from the planet Zog:

A country surrounded by salt water runs out of salt to clear the roads.

There is serious worry about stopping bankers bonuses because there might be a brain-drain. Yes that is the same bankers that have b.gg...d it up.
( But on the planet Zog of course we have reverse wired the logic loops in our brains )

and finally the most appalling, disasterous, shocking news of all that required the head of a TV channel to apologise to the secretary of state for sport and the head of the FA - an advert popped into a football match and stopped the fans seeing the last minute goal.

oh and something is happening in Iraq, but we don't want to bother ourselves with that do we ?

    sometimes wtf ?

    Just don't go there.

If you've got savings you're being scrwed over too. (Might be getting involved in a campaign about this )

The brain drain should happen - if they've got us into this mess they don't deserve jobs let alone bonuses.

Yep, us savers are now getting nothing as a return on our money, yet our money is quite happily lent at a low rate of interest to those in debt, so they can continue to live beyond their means...the whole situation is a joke, and whilst I partly understand why they are doing it, once again those who have worked, saved and been sensible suffer.

Still, this is only one reason why plans are in place for a move abroad soon.

PS - The north west distribute 60% of all road salt in this country, but stuff you all, we are keeping it

A country surrounded by salt water runs out of salt to clear the roads.
It is not the same kind of salt for a start, rock salt is used, which is extracted from rock salt mines.

    I was using a bit of ranter's licence ;-)

Anyway, if push comes to shove I've just figured out that any inaccuracies in my facts clearly point to a career switch into journalism... or writing some more website content.

rock salt is the same type of salt. It's just mixed with rock because it's mined

Rock salt started off as ocean

The purer salt is just going to cost more - and extracting salt from sea water would take a lot of energy so it'd be even more expensive.

    What do russia use?

(Small children are excused school when its -25'C and when it's -30'C everyone can stay at home!)

    ...from Chris' salt link:

Salt Union products are more than 90% pure Sodium Chloride with the remaining insolubles consisting mainly of Keuper Marl (is a layer of clay from the late Triassic or 'Keuper' period).

The kids will think that's cool - driving on bits of dinosaur.

    OK, so it clearly Friday morning 'Rant Hour', so here goes;

    - The energy to extract the salt from sea water could be obtained by the use of tidal power - which is obviously there all the time (not like bloody wind power - which is being treated like the 3rd Messiah). Also it happens to be sited just where you need it - next to the salt water. Is that easy or what ?

    - Bankers should only get bonuses when they generate a increase in the valuation of the funds / business under their control. No increase = NO bonus.
    - The sooner the 'brain' drain of these t******s gets under way the better.

    - All public service organisations should NEVER operate under a bonus scheme. It is immoral for 'public service' to de driven by the greed of bonuses. Can we not get back to a simple world where people simply get paid a salary/wage for the job.

OK, now seriously need another coffee ....and as it is Friday, a doughnut.

    Happy weekend everybody

    John

The problem is that we don't MAKE anything in this country any more, so the bankers have been propping up the economy with their so-called successes which it turns out were a complete lie.

Given that the big bonuses given to these bankers were obtained as the result of a lie, don't you think that we should be asking for them back? After all, we affiliates understand the concept of a reversal.. it's about time the bankers did too.

In all seriousness, there's some sort of publicity / blog waiting there - I bet noone in the press has ever heard of reversals - could be a good angle.

Asking won't do any good, you have to physically take it back but that involves a far more wide reaching solution than most people are currently willing to countenance. I completely understand the anger that is felt over this, but a lot of people seem genuinely surprised as well. Wake up, it was always thus! There has been no golden age when the world was not run by and for the owners of finance and capital. This situation is not new, unexpected or out of the ordinary.
