It is not necessary to know Facebook VAT number (I know accountants ask this but it is not necessary). You have invoice from Facebook and that is all you need to pay VAT.

Bit concerned about misadvice here so here's my considered points. We have been VAT registered since Mid 2003.

Google are not a VAT registered company, therefore no VAT can be taken from the payments to them. Like wise it's the same for Msn and facebook, they all operate outside the UK in terms of how their pay their taxes etc. (dodgy and unfair I agree, but it is so).

Yahoo UK (Not anywhere else such as US, France etc) issue VAT invoices and as such you can reclaim this money via your return.

We made the fatal error of believeing we could claim tax on Google and we had to pay alot to the VATman plus we came close to a serious investigation into our dealings, beware of customs and excise they have the power to stop and turnover your business and charge you for doing so.

Get your VAT position straight... you do not need a VAT number from the invoicee however, you need to be sure they are VAT registered.

Google are in the Eurozone so as a VAT registered company in the UK you have to apply the reverse charge for them.

Facebook are in the US so are exempt from VAT I believe.
