Is it just me or does JonathanAdams (in todays birthdays) seem a bit too young to be in this game? (or am I just feeling old?)
Which leads me to the question... how old were you when you got into the fun and games world of affilaite marketing or how long have you been at it?
Personally i started to dabble when i was 18 and have now been around these parts for 8/9 years.
Cheers
Paul.

Well I've been an affiliate for 3 and a bit years now but I'm not going to say how old I was when I started as that was already older than the majority on this board are now
But remember - for men, you are only as old as the woman you feel
And for the ladies - a lady is entitled to hold on to her youth - just not while he's driving!!
Never argue with idiots. They just drag you down to their level and then beat you with their experience.
If ignorance is bliss then some of the people I know must be orgasmic.
I think I am the eldest in the affyworld and I always find it mildly amusing talking to guys and gals who in some cases are younger then my eldest son (age 20)... I think its brilliant!

According to my tax records I started officially on 26/8/99 which was when I purchased my first domain. In those days there werent too many aff schemes to choose from.
I think BeFree/Reporting.bet and Amazon were my first major source of links.
Didnt start earning money til Dec 2000 though (£3 from Amazon). Then it "took off" in March 2001 with £30.95 from Buyagift (the first of a fair few quid I made with them)
well got to admit I do think of myself as one of the youngest active affiliates round these parts, 19 and been about for something like 4 years, but still not making enough.

I also started back in 1999 and in those days getting free traffic was easy-peasy but there were very few good affiliate programmes to choose from so making good money was tough.
Now it's the other way round!!
Technically everyone should be 18 who uses a Network as I think everyone of them has this in the terms (for the contract part) but as no one ever checks and if your a lot under 18 don't turn up to events no one will ever know. Mind you Mr Buckingham been going to events for a while now and I think he has only just turned 18 or was 18 end of last yearStill credit where it’s due, many folk his ages are to busy getting wasted and hoping their parents will bail them out if it all goes wrong.
I am pretty sure if I was 15 and Affiliate Marketing was going about I be doing it, as I was into the Internet big style all them years ago, heck I even remember the big fuss about Yahoo when it started, and for ages I thought the Internet was Usenet Groups and Email, didn’t see the point to web sites at the start LOL, them where the days.
I started elite back in 96 but didn't realise I could make money from it until about 98
I think I have re-invented the site about 5 times now finally realising every link from the site should potentially make me money.
Last year we culled about 200 sites including link exchanges - I often wonder if this encourages sites to sign up to aff schemes and if more portals should adopt this strategy
Admittedly, we have taken a hit in our Google rank but still get first page listings in many categories - strange but true
Im also 19 and been doing it about 8 months. Just wish i had come across it earlier! Although i dont make anything near a lot of people on here, for my age i'm doing pretty well.
I've already been able to quit my job and going uni in sept with savings behind me! My circumstances are so different to a year ago!
I like this business as its relativly new, fresh and I do get taken seriously despite being 19, which i imagine would be hard to find elsewhere? Would you guys agree?
Being doing websites since about 1994/5 it was a text based lynx website, my uni had only 4 macs with net access rest were all telnet, and usenet related.
First site for money was in 1996, when I used audiostreet for selling cds in those days they were cheaper than amazon. took me about 6 months to make 100 quid! I also used to display CPM adverts for around £20 per 1000 views those were the days!!
Agree, but now they all know how old you are...I like this business as its relativly new, fresh and I do get taken seriously despite being 19, which i imagine would be hard to find elsewhere? Would you guys agree?![]()
Superdupercod, you sure about the 18 thing being in the contract bit? I checked on the networks I was using pre 18 when the ££ got to an amount where id would be very bad if I didnt get paid and only found something in DGMs terms about age. TD had nothing. Cant remember rest.
Just checked my TD monthly report (as it was first network I used) and I made £4.13 in June 2001

I started sometime after I registered on A4U. I think I'd just turned 18 at the time, and I imagine I found this forum while trying to find the "get rick quick" things. Then I took one look at most of the posts here and disapeared for a few weeks, only to come back and realise what a wealth of information was here.
It's definately better starting young, as you grow with experience, by the time I'm forty...Anyway, I just got lucky when I first started, had a brief lucky stunt with Amazon/Adwords which had something rediculous like 500% ROI, of course I'm still not sure if I calculate ROI right so I could be wrong. It was only small figures mind, £10 on the old Adwords made about £60 on Amazon, that's when I got the AM bug.
Wow, some very different stories going on here which i guess just confirms the diversity in ways which people end up getting into AM. Another clear trend is that it's not the length of time you've been doing it but more what you do with that time![]()
