What's the best way of recommending a network to a potential merchant?
Do any of the networks have programs where we get any commission if we
recommend them and they take on the merchant

The answer is yes. Though not obliged to say. Though be careful too, whether it's a commission over-ride or finders fee, there is one network we introduced a merchant to (a network we don't do much with) who had never heard of affiliate marketing. We almost got royally screwed over on a finders fee, however they lost out on others & instances where merchants were encouraged to go dual network or even swap.

Play your cards close to your chest unless you really trust the company you deal with. Though most of the time, if a merchant asks why we don't promote them, we recommend other networks (for no return from the network) but we do make a concerted effort to promote that merchant from a favoured network if they do go dual or move.

That was part of the reason i was asking for PPT Presentations for Networks from

Webgains have a program that pays based on override for the first few months. For others you just need to get friendly with their business development guys.

Best thing if you have a lead is decide which networks they'd be best on, then ring the network and see what they'll offer, they'll usually give you something even if it's just a nice lunch.

A referred lead is far more likely to convert for them so it should come out of their business development budget rather than the merchants own fees.

Thanks both, wish I had asked earlier.
I've just recommended a network to what could be a very good merchant for
them, before even thinking if there might be something in it for me
Plus, if they do sign them up I'm probably creating more competition for myself
as they will probably get more affiliates.

Does anyone know of any networks that pay referral commissions for introducing new merchants?

We've passed some fairly big names onto networks in the past and never received anything for it. Perhaps we're missing out!

    Cheers
